One launch off mcgregor rd. maybe 30 spots to park. Go early as it fills up FAST on the weekends.

Depending on what you are doing, I would check out the back chain as well.

take an extra prop, or be quick on the trim. very shallow with little to no warning in many spots.

Kinda of related and might help a tad, get the app (I have android, I'm sure it's on apple too) by MI DNR Called MI Camping and Recreation Locator. Locates public boat launches and generally tells you type of launch and some lake info.

Mcgregor is the only public launch on Portage (state launch so you'll need the Rec Passport or pay to get in), and as he said it fills up fast! chances are slim that you can even get in on a weekend, unless you are there VERY early (opens at 8 I think, with 30 spots). Klaves Marina is next door to the launch, they used to offer launch passes for a fee, but I think it's only a seasonal pass. There is/was a privately owned launch just beyond the public one, by the old portage inn but it's first come first serve too (if it's still open). If you can get in, it's a nice chain of 9 lakes. If you have a shallow draft boat with a low profile to get under the bridges you can explore all day long.
-and as was mentioned, watch for sand bars in all of the lakes! On the weekends there are usually boats congregated on the sand bars...

Based upon your previous experiences, you need to stay away from shallow lakes ;)
