Default Penn State sanctions.

NCAA is imposing a fine of $60 million on the University (proceeds of one year) An endowment will be established to be used around the nation to serve victims of child abuse
Penn State Football will be banned from bowl games and post season play for 4 years
Initial scholarship reduced from 25 to 15 per year for four years
Enter, returning athletes are able to transfer and immediately complete
NCAA to vacate all wins of the football team from 1998 to 2011 and record will reflect change
Football program on 5-year probationary period
NCAA reserve right to initiate an investigation and impose sanctions on individuals

*********************************

Sounds like they are screwing over the players who were there during those years instead of screwing over the school.

I believe the vacating of the record was to drop Paterno down the list of winningest coaches - after the vacating he'll be 12th. I think that is appropriate, since his purusit of that title is probably the main driver behind some of the bad behavior.

Personally, I think they should have also been given the death penalty. If SMU received it for paying players, PSU should DEFINITELY have received it for covering up child rape. They could have given the football team a couple years of the death penalty, but made a special exception for the players to transfer to other colleges and not lose a year of eligibility. However, because the school wasn't under probation and had no record of systemic violations in the past, it wasn't eligible for the death penalty? Lame.

I do at least like the effect of dropping JoePa down the list of winningest coaches though.

Anything but the death penalty is bs. 60 million is chump change for them.

60 mil is only one year's football revenue. They should pick a number, say 10 mil and sanction them that much for each victim and give the money to the victims.

I agree that it sucks to have been a player that loses the record but shit rolls down hill.

The civil trials haven't even started yet.

Penn state will be PAYING some serious $ once those start settling...

I have no sympathy either - they were so focused on getting JoPa his record that they'd do damn near anything. Remember the games he "coached" after his heart attack where he napped in the press box during games because the sidelines were too cold and hectic?

As far as penalties, I think they get the death penalty for two years, and anybody found to have covered up or not acted be fired and blacklisted from coaching at NCAA, high school, etc...

If I were the school, they would return after the death penalty in new, modern uniforms as well, to break with the now-tainted past.

The only issue I have with the financial penality is football funds all the other sports at the college level. As a result most of the athletic programs at Penn will suffer as a result of the football coaches issues.

The whole school should suffer. They based their whole reputation around Paterno and let him brush a pervert under the rug. His influence is what kept this quiet. They got what they deserved.

I wish Paterno was still alive to see this come about.

Child abusers are the lowest of all scum.

good idea! but it will never happen!

banned from all ncaa sports for 1 year.
banned from ncaa football 5 years.
plus everything else they got, would be a good start.

in the ncaa its ok to cover up child abuse/rape if you make enough money.

While it started with the football coachs, all of the key administration knew about it. So it is reasonable for the whole school to be punished, not just football.

Kid raping is much worse, like a billion times worse, But pointing a gun at someone(if the allegations are true) is a fire-able offense, DUI and weed are not, but DUI and weed does show lack of discipline.

What i find interesting about all of this is the fact that people are trusting 100% what is in the Freeh report. You all do know this same man in under investigation by the FBI and DOJ for a huge coverup having to do with flawed forensic evidence and lab reports that could include up to 10,000 cases and the conviction of 1000's of innocent people.

Not defending Joe or Penn State because what they(Joe allegedly) did was sick and disgusting, I just am amused at how quickly the sheep will follow. Freeh went through so many documents in such a short period of time that I doubt he was able to do it without the help of keyword software which i am sure did not give him the whole picture. I am interested in seeing what comes of the DOJ and FBI investigation on him because if he is proven guilty of said charges then I do not see how anyone can trust his findings.

Also why is it that all the statues of the Pope are not torn down? What the Catholic church has been doing for years and years is no different than the Penn State stuff.

If it wasn't true, why would the BOD agree to sanctions with no ability to appeal? Kinda like self admission IMO.
