When I did autobody for a living people would call at least three times a week asking how much to paint my car.My answer was always the same, hold it up to the phone so I can look at it.

Make sence? Go to a body shop and get a estimate.
As a rule black is the most exspensive color to paint, every thing needs to be 110% perfect or it will look like shit.
If you dont want to polish your jeep all the time I would not paint it black.
In my opinion nothing looks better then black when it's freshly washed, but no color looks worse then black a mile down the road.If you live/work in a dusty area or near a gravel road I would pick a lighter color.

The cost assosiated depends on the shape of your jeep and how much if any of the work you can do,like stripping bumpers, lights, flares. The cost also depends hugely on if you are painting inside the jeep, under the hood, and if you are changing colors it gets much more exspensive.

When I priced materials to paint my camaro last fall It was over $1000 just for materials, using dupont color and clear.I could knock several hundred off of that buy using a cheaper brand of paint like omni. A body shop that buys in bulk, and has materials in stock can save some money.

Maaco starts @ $300 and goes upwards of $2000 not counting body work a real body shop will likely be much more.

I started with a 88 ranger with zero rust, 39k miles and needed no bodywork.

I stripped it, gutted it and sanded it all down myself.

My buddy primed, painted and cleared the truck in 10 days and it still cost me almost 2600.00

Just got my 4Runner back from Maaco. $600 to paint complete truck in Urethane. They claim it is the factory color but seems to have some extra metallic in it. Other than that I have no complaints.
