New here from Central Indiana
Hey all, new on here from central Indiana. I've currently have a 93 Bronco that we're going to be wheeling. It has a 4" lift, 33" mud terrains, rear detroit locker, broncoair front winch bumper, t-max 12000lb winch. I've owned a Suzuki Samurai, and Jeep Cherokee(XJ) in the past.
Our first outing with the Bronco was a total failure. We took it out this past weekend to the Badlands @ Attica. Temp's were in the mid-90's when we arrived around 10:00, and they rose from there. We were only 10 minutes into trail riding when I put it in a ditch on the right side. My brother-in-law snapped a u-joint in his front axle while trying to pull us out, and his Jeep just kept sliding when he tried to winch us out. My winch wasn't working for my BIL. (I tried the winch out yesterday and have concluded he have the controller attached correctly.)
So, my wife calls the emergency number for the Badlands, and they sent someone to rescue us. However, we were waiting about an hour, in the heat, before the guy found us. With practiced hand he setup his Cherokee and slowly pulled us out. While that was going on my right front tire blew out. We found a huge gash in the inner sidewall. During all this I'm unable to open the drivers door to get out and help. Ended up really f'in up the door and fender to get it open.
So we slowly drive back to a road, and start changing the tire. While changing the tire, I get dizzy, and almost faint. I drink some Gatorade while my BIL changed the tire. We end up leaving, and going to a restaurant to have lunch, and get out of the heat. While there, I have about 2 bites of my lunch and get sick. So, I end up in the hospital w/ dehydration and heat exhaustion. Later that day, we blow the spare tire going into a parking lot. Same large gash as before.
Turns out the bolt we used to hook up the sway bar disconnects was to long, and I'm guessing with the tires aired down, when we were turning and hit a bump, the tire pushed into the bolt.
We have AAA, so we were able to get the Bronco towed home, and rent a car to continue our vacation to Holiday World/Splashin' Safari (the Mammoth water coaster is AWESOME!!!)
Currently the Bronco is in the garage, I'm waiting on a replacement tire, trying to decide whether to buy new door/fender or take a trip to the pic-a-part, and I'm going to start building cargo storage in the back.
Looking forward to getting back out on the trails, and hopefully having a better time of it.
