Default 3.slo gas mileage

What is a reasonable fuel milage to expect out of a 3.0 in a 94 extra cab p'up? My dd is at the paint shop so I took a trip in my p'up today and it gets 14mpg. It is an auto with 4.56 gears and 31" tires( I know why they had to put 4.88's in the factory trucks that came with 31's. It is a do My 78 F150 got 17.5 mpg on the highway 30 years ago with a 351 & a C6. MY 85 4Runner with a 22re & a 5spd would of pulled 20-21 mpg same for my 97 $Runner with a 3.4 & 5 spd. Is it the auto trans that sucks up the differance or is the 3.0 really that bad? I looked for a truck with a 22re & 5spd for 6 months before I bought this one. It is probably slower than my 85 4runner on 33's with the same gears.

Recalculated fuel milage with GPS distance and came up with 15 for the trip there & 16 on the way back. Still sucks for a little truck.

I only drove a 3.slo a little bit down the road. My 22REs had about the sasme amount of power. My buddy had a couple and never was really happy with the mileage.

I will say I was impressed by another guy's 22RET when I rode in it. 5.29s on 35s. That turbo would kick in right about when a normal 22RE falls off.

The 3.slo really falls off on the highway when my 22re's just keep going. The factory has to install 4.56 gears just so it will get out of it's own way.

If you want to ditch it and do a 22re swap I'll take your 3.slow...I need a motor and don't feel like doin a 350/22r/3.4 swap. Lol.

Truck isn't worth doing a swap on, normally I don't drive it very far. I just keep it around for hauling dogs, parts, firewood and winter beater duty.

my 22re got the same mileage as my buddies 3.0 when we were in college.....he had a 4 runner on 31 mud terrains (1992) and I had a 1992 minitruck with a topper on 31 all terrains.

Both were right around 15mpg

Checked the milage on my 3.4 5spd, 4Runner last night 20MPG basically stop & go driving to & from work. Mostly go unless I get on 696 in the evening. It gets 20 @ 70 on the freeway as well. I'm not sure why but my 4Runners have always gotten better milage than my Yota P'ups even with the same drivtrain.

My 3.4/auto Tacoma gets @ 20 on the highway if I keep it around 70. Anything more and the mileage goes downhill fast. Around town I would say @ 17-18. I am running "33 though (285/75/16s). I would love to get the 25-26 my old XtraCab 22RE/5spd got.
