There are a ton of broke ass, negative people around here. There is also a lot of money. I accept a lower salary than I could get elsewhere to live here. But, I can ride my bike anywhere in town, live a 1/4 mile from Lake MI, enjoy good food and beer, hunt and fish all the time, am never stuck in traffic, and am a lot closer drive to da UP. It's worth it to me.

There are opportunities. There has been a lot of investment in some of the industrial areas around TC, and now we're a Next Michigan zone which will provide industrial economic development programs. Housing is picking up. I don't know the numbers but it sure as hell seems like tourism is up, a lot. Wineries. Start your own business, who knows?

Obviously I don't know what you are looking for but search http://michiganworks.org/ for opportunities. Good luck!

I would love to live around Munising or Marquette.

Thanks for all of the responses! I'll be checking out the leads you guys gave me and I appreciate the negative responses as well. Life isn't all great ideas and easy living and those warnings are definitely some of the things I was looking for when I made this thread.

I'm glad to hear that they are working on developing the Traverse City area as that was one of the places we were discussing. That area has a sort of safety net already for us with NMC and the Great Lakes Maritime Academy in case immediate jobs fall through and I decide to jump right into using my G.I. Bill.

living in gaylord there isnt shit for jobs here, mostly just resort work or food and bev work which all pay minimum wage. I work in retail sales and its tough, I definally make less up here then I did downstate but its worth it like mtnbikinbryno said. If my grandpa didnt live here and depend on me I would be moving closer to TC or Petoskey. As far as the UP is concerned I would also love to live up there but jobs and miles to drive to even do any shopping (TC or Gaylord) would get old fast. Northern lower seems to have the best of both worlds IMO.
