Default What gears should I use?

I have a 95 Ford F150 with a stock 460. I use the truck stricly for mud runs nothing else. I have Super Swamper 34x9.50 TSL's. I am looking to see what gear I need to get the most speed out of the truck. I have a 9" in the rear and a 44 in the front.

stock 460 and 34's. 4.56's should get you to 3rd in the low side.

Well, with what you do now, what gears do you have today, and how is it working?

Are you running hi or low range? Do you need more power? Whats the fastest mph you think you will run? Whats the redline for your engine?

Those all kinda feed into the decision.

Usually its something like: I run great in 2nd gear but when I shift to 3rd I bog down. Or, I run great in low range but run out of rpm in 3rd-lo, but then high range is too high.

I run in second gear. Low range. I have plenty of power for what i got i do not run out of power. I run about 200 - 260 feet. Anywhere between 8 to 24 inches of mud. Right now all i have is 3.20 gears. I need more speed to compete.

Again, you need to give more info.

Why aren't you getting the speed you want? Are you not getting to redline by the end of your run? (what rpm are you at when you finish? ) Or are you getting to redline too early.

Ideally, what you want to do is figure out what RPM you want to be at, at the end of your run, then use one of the calculators, or help from folks like us, to tell you what gear to run the transmission in, and what gears to have in the axles.
