Question Estate problems... HELP

i feel like im having alittle problem with my grandmas estate and the way it is being divided...

Please keep thread clean this is a serious question. thanks.

long story short my grandmother had 9 kids with my grandfather. My father passed away when i was 8 and one of my aunts passed away a few years ago(before my grandmother). So that leaves 7 kids then me(for my dads) and my 3 cousins(for my aunt).

the way they divided it the 7 kids got theyre share but instead of me getting my dads share and my cousins getting theyre moms share and them splitting it, they added my dads and aunts share together then divided it by 4.

my question/problem is shouldnt i be getting my dads share and they should be getting they moms share and splitting theyre moms share? or is there something im missing?

any help would be nice and id be very grateful. thanks ahead of time.

this has never happened to me, but i've thought about it before and have decided that i would pick out one or two specific things i want that remind me of the loved one that i lost and then just let it go.

Nothing ever goes as expected when dividing an estate. Just don't let it cause problems with the family.

Just be happy you are getting 1/4 and be thankful you have a family.

You have no siblings, right? Assuming that's the case..i wouldn't be satisfied with dividing up the stuff 4 ways with your cousins either..although if they add up your dead aunt and your fathers portion, and divide that by 4... You're not getting a 1/4 of what you should otherwise get...youre only getting screwed out of 1/2.

Like someone mentioned above...did she have a will?

If your dad was alive you wouldnt be getting shit. Quit your bitching. This is the type of stuff that dismantles families for ever. Its too bad your grandma doesnt have a will. Irresponsible of her.

A will is a blessing, without one property splits default to state language - not sure what it it, but should be able to find it on the web rather eaisly.

My will reads.... "being of sound mind, I spent it all".

Sorry to hear about the loss of your grandmother. No offense but you should be happy she was blessed enough to be able to pass anything down to her heirs. I would be happy with what you get and try to keep your relationship with your family solid. Money can never replace family.

My wife's mother and stepfather died within a month of each other when my wife was 15. Her mother was on the way to the attorney's office to sign the will when she had an aneurysm and died.

the stepfather got everything according to state law.

He died a month or so later and everything went to HIS family.

My wife and her sisters got nothing.

If there is no will defining who gets what, you get whatever the family lets you have, or whatever the state says you get.

Waste Management will likely get most of what I have.

No idea. Glad it isn't, my dad rang up quite a bit before the end. (Medical)

Yeah, take em to court, eat up the estate in probate, that'll show em.

Was JeepZJ the kind of grandson that visited grandma regularly, helped her out with the house, took her shopping, etc, or was he the kind that just kept thinking "when granny goes, I'll get a big chunk!'

Seriously- unless I die unexpectedly, I'm giving away all my stuff before I go. That way I know the people will get what I want them to get.
