Default another 6.0 question

Just bought my first diesel, 2005 F-250 CC SB with 70k , picked it up friday from the dealer.

I did all the reading and feel confident enough to do the egr delete and cooler swap, when its out of warranty(30 days). plan on getting a programmer and just watching the EOT and ECT for the next month since they gave me 30 days.

they offered me 2400 dollar warranty extension for 4 yr/ 48000 mile. if i do this it would postpone the egr delete /cooler.

Heres my questions, I am taking it back to them tomorrow for a oil leak at the LPOP \ hex plug, is this a major problem? (more like wet seaping)

which one? 2k for warranty or 2k in upgrades / fixes?

Only tunes i would ever run would be for economy, just want a reliable diesel.

Thanks for any input.

I would do the upgrades. A lot of warrantys are not that great when you need them. The warranty would only take you to 118k miles most if any problems you would have in that time could be fixed for less and may end up not covered under warranty anyway.

Upgrades, every diesel needs the same things done. Upgraded head studs, egr delete, cooler delete. Those will fail, only a matter of time. Don't waste your money on warranty. Get the upgrades, and gain the piece of mind knowing your not gonna end up on the side of 75 with a warranty and a ruined vacation. .02

Damn, 05 with 70k. Get an Oasis and don't freak out about shit. Obviously you've read up on them but forums are packed full of underknowledged paranoid everyday jackasses.

Cooler swap and cooler delete are mentioned here, are you talking about the oil cooler?

so, little update and rant.

The dealership gave me the 1 month / 1k warranty. I ordered and installed the coolant filter before the roadtrip to hocking hills this weekend.

On my way home with 800 miles more on it, the engine shuts down on the rouge river bridge. No warning , no engine codes. won't restart.

I called the dealer and had it towed to them, "cause its covered". per my sales guy.

Today, their telling me the cooler voids the warranty. lol , can't wait for them to tell me it has something to do with a complete engine shutdown.

might just have it towed home. probably could have even fixed it by now.
(btw the insight works nicely, and told me low ICP error even thou the engine light never came on )

You said coolant filter and cooler. Do you mean you installed a bypass coolant filter, and the dealer isn't covering it?

That is total BS. The powerstroke forums are full of people saying how service managers say it doesn't effect the warranty.

Unless you EOT's are out of whack i wouldn't bother with the oil cooler.

If koochman is talking about the oil cooler delete, that's over 2 grand and isn't a part that just all of a sudden takes a shit and leaves you on the side of the road. I wouldn't bother with the oil cooler or the delete unless you need to.

All the people on forums say to do the Egr delete and the oil cooler at the same time but there's a big difference between tilting the intake a little and taking it completely out.

What is your insight telling you?

I just did 900 miles in 95-108 degree temps, and I was around 190ECT/198EOT.. It stays right around 8 degrees now, every once in a while it pushes 10, but that is rare.

Pretty much the same until it shut down, we drove down to hocking hills on the 4th, 800 miles round trip 7* delta was average but it would creep up to 9* once in a while and then immediately drop. the eot was around 205 at its worst.

Just got done ballin out the dealer and they wont eat the whole bill so im paying 500 for the STC fitting on the HPOP. Since they "think" thats what it is. (and still arguing the warranty is void due to the bypass filter)

After that its getting towed home if it doesn't start. (the mechanic wanted to check every injector) I told them to stop there. besides he thinks its the stc fitting also.

I'm not upset about the needed repairs as i am dealing with idiot salesmen trying to feed me BS. I even handed them this http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/cons...ts/alt192.shtm

the idiot actually wanted to argue that "that's not ford policy". I told him last I checked ford doesn't write the laws.

Ok, so at the end of all this, (i fucked up) I thought I was under the 1k mile warranty, im actually 15 miles over, which was pointed out to me after an hour of bickering. So they helped more then they had to.

I will be done with them after tomorrow either way. (i think i will be happy with a broken truck in the driveway then dealing with these idiots anymore)

If they think it's the STC fitting then why don't you just do it yourself. It's only 8 more bolts than the EGR delete. Once the EGR cooler is out of the way you won't even need to move the intake to get the top of HPOP cover off.

Obviously they think there is a high pressure oil leak. Have your system pressure tested, if there's a leak it's probably your STC or stand pipe/dummy plugs (both fairly easy fixes).

First thing i would do is unplug your ICP to see if it will start, it's on your passenger side valve cover looks like a PCV port. If it starts then your ICP is bad.

Also what oil filter are you running, I've seen Wix cause a similar issue you have.

Get it home, peel the top stuff off, tilt the intake pull EGR Cooler, a few more bolts and swap the STC fitting. Install your EGR delete and work your way back out (unless you're still going to do the oil cooler, then do it now). If the STC is the problem then you're done with everything you want to do, less than 15 hours of work and way cheaper than a 500 shot in the dark, plus all the rest of the stuff you plan to do is done.

Also check your IPR screen while you're in there.

Sounds like you found one of the fuckhead dealerships and i would shove that 500 bucks up their ass and tow that POS home and do it yourself.

You just balled them out for an hour and you think they're going to do quality work?

This means your oil cooler is still working fine. Leave it alone. Unless you somehow got your coolant temp up around 216 and the E fan kicked on. But you would have noticed that.
