No, the 2.5 merc race outboards were a 225 promax, a 260, 280, and the ss3000 which was rated at 300hp.

The 3.0 Merc I have is a 300x, rated at 300, makes 315ish, there was also the 300 promax which was also a 3.0 that made about 285, the old school 3.4 275

The new 3.2 300xs is the replacement for the 300x.

The verado 350 isn't typically used for a small light boat like a checkmate, it makes torque and weighs a metrick fuckton, it's also not a 2 stroke like he claimed.

a 21 checkmate pulsare with a 300x will run high l80's low 90's, with a 2.5 225 promax it will run near 70.

65 feels fast as fukc in a small boat (21ft or smaller ish). 65 feels fast in my 24, anything over 65-75 feels the same. Once you start to crack 80 it feels really fucking fast espescially when the waves on the water start to get blurry.

It probably will run close to 90 with 300hp. but not on glass, it would run better with a slight chop.

Which Cat? 100 mph with a 300 on a cat is entirely possible. He is at least not "bass fisherman"-ing his speeds, which is refreshing.

Then again if he is running something other than a 2.5 260/280 or a 300 he could be full of shit.

my boat will clear 80, but I need a good 6-12" wind whipped chop to break 85, most times I am right at 80, but I was pushing a lot of boat through the air.

In keeping this thread on topic I will just say that I think the modern jetboats aren't my first choice, but in the future it's an option I would explore... I loved "flying" my boat. Running a jet boat as a beat around tubing, swimming, cruising, get out on the water kind of boat is not a bad option.....its certainly cheaper then my yard ornament.

I think the bigger ones are pigs. The small ones are fun,for a minute, because they are small and nimble. The bigger jets are usually slugs.
The reason you dont notice the no throttle/no turn is because the boat raises the idle speed when you turn the wheel on the newer stuff.Instead of putting a sticker on the boat explaining the steering, like they did for years. They were worried about law suits,so they made the boat steer the idiot, instead of the idiot steering the boat.

I could never buy a jet, I cant get the stupid noise out of my head as it is.

Manistee River jet boats would really annoy you then, you can hear them coming three or 4 turns away.

I dont think that is true about being pigs but ive never been in a seadoo or anything so I have a limited comparison I just heard they were pigs on gas and had lots of motor problems. My boat is nimble and carrys its weight usally really well and still whips the corners and pulls good amount of g's which is my favorite. I believe if the seats didnt have sides to them I would have been ripped out of the boat years ago. . Sure when I load myself (200lbs) and 6 others with coolers, gear, and a full tank of gas, it is very noticeable and I do lose some "out of the whole" speed but its to be expected since I got the smallest motor they stuck in these but in the same hand I love the gas mileage I get with this. Usally I run around with 4 or so people and it seems to not lose alot of its power. My boat does not speed up apon turning and havnt saw any new ones yet that do. Also my motor I think sounds more like an 2 stroke outboard(deeper sound) then a smaller jetski.

I know a 2.5 sport was 280 hp. . I think I am talking about the older 2.4- 2.5 blackmax motors that came with no warentee.I will ask my freind who builds racing outboards for a living, but I know he told me over 300hp out of a 2.5. He sets records, and builds other peoples record setting boats,so I tend to beleive him.

I have been in a few fast boats through the years, the fastest was a 26' mate with a procharged 542. I was in it at 109mph on gps,it was scary. I was offered a ride in a stv that does 120, I declined.

All this thought put into this thread, and next Barry will not want a boat. All for Barry to say well I got a good deal on something else so now no boat. Anyway some good info in this thread on boats.

How would that be any different from the rest of Barry's virtual tire kicking threads?

you can make 300 hp with a 2.5, but they were never rated for more from the factory. Not sure what the 2.4's made, but they were mostly 200, 225, and 240-245hp models.

No warranty? I think the only motor that had absolutely no warranty was the 2.5 ss3000. All others still had at least a 1 year factory warranty on "racing" motors, and a 3 year on consumer motors.

An STV at 120 is a fairly stable boat, those boats don't take much horsepower to push up into the 100+ range, In fact I think I've seen a few with only 150 hp make it damn close.

His boat would run up over 100, then again it was also 32 feet with 4 times the horsepower of mine.

I love the JK! The wife loves it too. It did good towing the ZRT the other day. Fuel mileage isn't the best but I knew that going in. No complaints

I had a mastecraft and now have a yamaha 220hp 17ft jet boat, its more fun and practice than the mastercraft, I dont pull 10 skier just a couple kids on tubes, plenty of power and faster. The only down fall is having 2 motors so it is more maintance and a little more time to get them started.

Don't the older Seadoo boats with the twin motors also burn the 2 stroke oil? I haven't had my jetski for ages so I don't even know how common it is anymore or not. But either way that's something to factor in to your operating costs. IIRC my 99 SPX with the 7something motor would burn like a gallon of it ever couple tanks...
