OK ...first off if that motor is a stock Ex/Mount. 5.0 it will use the 5.0 HO firing order.
1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 This is without a doubt the correct order.

Make sure since your using a distributor and not the DIS anymore that you have it stabbed in correctly when the motor is at TDC.

The cylinders are 1 -4 on passenger side and 5-8 on the driver side.

Put the motor to TDC by lining up the marks on the balancer and timing tab. The rotor should be pointing somewhere between straight to the rear of the motor and the #8 cylinder. If you look closely at the base of your distributor you will see a tiny V- notch cut into it...there will also be another notch in the block rite where the distributor seats. These two notches are what the Ford factory went by to set ignition timing to 10 BTDC when they built that motor. Line those two up and you should be set as close to the day it rolled off the line. Unplug the spout connector and double check that it is 10 at idle.

Again Im sorry if Im already hitting the basics.

I just looked it up and you guys are right it should be HO firing order. When I looked it up two weeks ago I think I got the wrong info or just messed up.

Going to try that again tonight, might not have had the timing right for that order.

Yes it is all mass air setup.

Hope its this easy and I'm just dumb.

I changed the firing order to HO. It ran no better now it wont run.

I am getting spark and the injectors are firing, fuel gauge is at 40 psi but i am going to double check it with a mechanical gauge.

What should i check next?

Wish i had a spare distributor to try.

I have done that and tried different computers.

The one I was using before the harness swap the fuel pump would not prime with or run. I had wired it off of a relay.

With a computer that came with the harness it does now but doesnt want to run, I tried disconnecting the fuel pump and cranking it to see if it got flooded because there was the strong smell of gas and has been for a few weeks now when it would kinda run.

No dice, then I tried to spray some carb cleaner in the throttle body to see if it needed fuel and no dice.

I will try it again tomorrow in case the plugs got wet, I pulled one and it was not wet but smelled of gas. I cranked it over with that plug out but stiil hooked to the plug wire and grounded the electrode and it gets a nice big spark.

It did run when I put the wires in the correct HO order but seemed like in was missing a few cylinders. I tried pulling plug wires to determine which ones and it only got worse. And there was definitely a spark jumping from the cap to the wire.

Got a buddy trying to get me a spare distributor and mass air meter to try. Don't know what else it could be.
