I found a hand typed paper from my wife's grandmother. It spoke about F.D.R.
I read it and thought about how it resembled our current president and his policies. Interesting, in the 30's and now 80 some years later the still up to the same old..... I am not sure where she got the paper or who wrote it but found it interesting enough to post for you guys to enjoy.
A stranger stood at the gates of Hell,
The devil himself had answered the bell:
He looked him over from head to toe
And said: "My friend, I'd like to know
A few little things before I let you in-
Just what have you done in the line of sin?"
Then Franklin D. with his usual guile,
Stepped forth and flashed his toothy smile:
"When I took charge in '33,
"A nations faith was mine", said he;
"I promised this and I promised that"
"I calmed them down with a 'fireside chat'
I spent thier money on fishing trips,
And fished from the decks of thier battle ships.
I gave them jobs on the W.P.A.
Then raised thier taxes and took it away.
I raised their wages and closed thier shops,
I killed thier pigs and burned thier crops.
I doubled crossed both old and young,
And still the fools my praises sung.
I brought back beer and what do you think-
I taxed it so high they couldn't drink.
I furnished them money with government loans-
When they missed thier payments I took thier homes.
When I wanted to punish the folks you know,
I'd put my wife on the radio.
I paid out thier money to let their farms lie still,
And imported foodstuffs from Mr. Brazil.
I curtailed crops when I felt real mean,
And shipped in corn from Argentine.
When they'd start to worry, stew and fret,
I'd start them chanting the alphabet -
With the A.A.A. and the N.L.B.,
The W.P.A. and the C.C.C.
With these many units I got thier goats,
And still I crammed it down thier throats.
My workers worked with the speed of snails,
While the taxpayers chewed thier fingernails.
When the organizers needed dough,
I closed up plants for the C.L.O.
I ruined jobs and ruined health
I put the screws on the rich mans wealth,
And some who couldn't stand the gaff,
Would call on me - and how I'd laugh.
When they got to strong on certain things,
I'd pack up an' head for ole warm springs.
I ruined the country - thier homes and then
I placed the blame on nine old men.
Now Franklin had talked both long and loud,
The devil stood by his head was bowed:
At last he said: "lets make it clear,
You'll have to move on - you can't stay here.
For once you mingle with this mob,
I'll have to hunt myself a job."
