Default Weekend Jeepin, & the DNR

We were up north this past weekend, doing some legal Jeepin on the trails between Grayling & Gaylord.
We were stopped by a DNR Officer on a seasonal road. He was surprisingly very cool.

He asked the lead driver for a Drivers License & Phone Number.
He then pulled up to each rig, and asked if we were behaving today, not tearing anything up, right?
He then thanked us all for coming up and spending the holiday up north, and asked us to be safe, and told us to have fun.
I have to admit that when I seen him approach us, I pictured revenue tickets for all, a hard time, and a real bad day unfolding right in front of us.

So......this was all very refreshing, and gave me a good impression about the Alien that was posing as a DNR Officer.
He had to be gathering info for the invasion of Earth that will happen later this week, because there's no way in hell that he was a real DNR Officer of the Great State of Michigan. I guess they're not all out to get us?

What was his justification for getting the leaders information? I bet if there was any damage from illegal off roading in the area he wold have gotten the blame.

In all the years of using various types of forest roads and trains I have never had any problem from the DNR.

I had a similer experience monday in the yankee springs game area.I was riding my dual sport and had stopped tp check for a call I was expecting.I was on my phone when Dnr guy pulled up.I figured he would want all my info and check my bike over to make sure it was legal. He just waved and said to have a nice day,I was suprized to say the least.Im totally legal,as is my bike, but it was refreashing.
The oceana county cop that pulled me over sat in silver lake was nice enough, but very educated. He pulled me over because I was standing up on my bike.I said I was being unsafe and he didnt want me to get hurt if someone pulled out in front of me.I was polite at first, then got a little pissie with him when he wouldnt listen.
I tried to explain that standing up is not illegal, and is a safer position to ride in then sitting. It's called the attack position,on a bike. When you are standing up you are able to move in any direction in an instant. I told him that I wont tell him how to be a cop,and he will not tell me how to ride my bike.He left after running my plate and license.
I know the real reason he pulled me over is because my bike looks like a yz250 with a headlight,he figured he had a punk kid on a dirtbike with the wrong plate.

My dad and I had a similar friendly experience with DNR officers in the Gladwin Field Trial Area last weekend. Nothing but friendly.

I was a little worried being at that end of that 7 Jeep line up. It seems if they want to give you a hard time there is always something they can nit-pick if they want to. I try to make sure I'm legal but due to past experiences get worried I might miss something.

I will for sure go spend my money in Michigan again after the good time we had this past weekend. . . . Especially if your Mom is cooking again.

I know quite a few Dnr officers, state troopers and sheriffs deputys in my area that own jeeps or other wheeling rigs. We see them on the trails a lot. As long as your not drinking, poaching or tearing stuff up they are pretty cool. Most don't even say anything about a couple of the too tall trucks that occasionally hit the roads going from trail to trail.
