Default Hydraulic Valve lifters - Cleaning

Does anybody know if there is a way to clean Hydraulic Valve lifters.
I have a set (with less then 200 miles on them) that have some dirt/metal fines from my old cam in them. Apparently I didn't clean the engine well enough. However, I bought another set to put in the engine, but the set I am pulling out look like new yet, they just have some "fines" in them. I hate to scrap a $100 set of lifters.

The lifters can be taken apart and cleaned/flushed with carb cleaner. However since each lifter is indivdually assembled with different thickness parts, you must do one at a time without exchanging parts between them. it will take a while.
