Yeah but GST is refundable for motel rooms but go figure, camping GST is not!

Of any place to camp, Blueberry is not to bad. Nice showers and restrooms and they're open all night! You'd be suprised at some places in which they are not.
There are some small cabins up the road a bit that MC and SMR used to stay at. Couldn't tell you the name but just that they are right before Batchawana River on the east side of the road.

Sunset used to be decent especially when Hepditch Market and gas station was open across the street. Now that that place closed down we're left with the ESSO close to Blueberry and the Canadian Carver further up the road.
I haven't stayed @ Sunset since 1994

I'll go on the hunt for the tracks.

Diane told me there are 12 reservations for our group. Looks like we're going to have a pretty decent sized group. There are a few more on the fence that I know of.

Well, after a discussion last night, it looks like we will be coming up to follow kb8ymf around.

Jim, you still didn't answer what tracks you want.

Hi, names Rob, and live in the Soo, 1 of Bigbirds buddys, fyi- trying to nav. around the Sault with all the summer/fall road construction, just a heads up, google earth shows the new truck route. take the new truck route when getting off the bridge, turn right , follow truck route signs to get you guys up on top of the hill Second Line to GreatNorthern Rd, heading north. Gas up on US side before comming over, dont gas up at the trading post. the price of gas is allways 4-5 cent more. If you take the old route threw downtown, its full of road construction,
hope you guys/gals have a great trip, maybe see ya on the trails or at blueberry campground around the campfire

if you guys do a day trip up to top of Batchewana mountain, old lookout tower ? I might be in for a Fall run, we have been there many times, but the top last mile of the trail is alittle overgrown, but still do-able

That is one of my possible stops. We camped up there years ago when the color was at its peak. Awesome night up there with all the stars.

Not sure where my pics of that are at.

Another nice thing about blueberry is that they have (or did have) a laundry mat. Was good to be able to dry out clothes and blankets after a long rainy day on the trail.

John,
You must be thinking of somewhere else. It never rains in Canada.

Hi Rob, Thanks for the heads up on the new route, I'll have to start looking to see where it actually goes. I'm so used to running around the Casino and past the Algoma trail station for years.
If I remember they had Great Northern torn up a few years ago. Is that one of those endless projects?
Yeah, we've always gassed up down state. Even more so now.

On the lookout...................we've been brushing that a little each year..........we were really hoping you locals would finish the last little bit for us
I know that's been called Batchawana Mountain for eions but Batchawana is actually the mountain just to the southwest of the one we drive up on. That one the road goes up on is actually Griffin Lake Peak. And of course Griffin Lake was one of your pictures.
like WR said, we camped out overnight there a few years back. Great sky at night, great weather. Just need to remember to bring real thick sleeping bag pad or elevated cot next time. Not a flat spot on the ground up at the tower.
