I know they get better fuel economy than a F350 gas truck

My Wife had a 2001 TDI. There's a lot of good reading here. http://forums.tdiclub.com/

I dont have any experience with tdi's because I dont work on diesels.I have worked on a lot of vws,I worked at vw shop in GR for years. In my honest opinion Hitler built the only good vw.The air cooled cars and buses ran for ever, were easy to work on,and were affordable.Water cooled vws are not easy to work on,have shit loads of problems, and are exspensive as hell to buy parts for.German engineering blows in my opinion.
I dont recomend anyone buys a used vw unless they have a pile of money to spend on repairs in the near future.

I was turned off a VW diesel from a certified VW mechanic who told me they have their fair share of problems starting about 80-100,000 miles on the engine. Not $200 fixes either if you know what I mean. Can't you do a 4BT now? Maybe not the same $? Don't know, but I'd at least look into it.
