Default Key stuck in Chevy ignition

A girls at work's 2009 Aveo will not let her take the key out of the ignition. It starts, shifts, and drives fine. The key will go to the acc position but will not come out. Adjusting the steering wheel and shifter does not help. It's an automatic.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Seems to be a very common problem.

Pull out the fuse for the clock/radio worked for that guy.

I looked under the column and there isn't a release.

I guess I will try the fuse in a few minutes.

the release button is by the shifter itself on the aveo - there is alittle plug you pop out then stick like a ink pen in it and the keys will come out. the shifter if goofed up.

I saw that release button and that didn't let the keys out.

Anyway, said girl panicked and called AAA to have it towed to a dealer even though it was perfectly driveable.

I bet it says in the manual how to get it out. I know my truck's manual says how to do it.

Leave the key in it. It's an Aveo, no one will steal it.

Or if they do, it's a blessing.

She was so concerned with someone stealing it she had us move a delivery truck out of the garage to park it in there until AAA could come get it.

It sounds like the interlock switch has an issue. This seems to happen more and more on the newer cars. Right now Honda has a recall on these going back about 10 years. Of course they recalled these because the keys might come out of the ignition while it's running. (I always thought that was a helpful feature so you didn't need to turn it off to use a different key)
