Default Westside mechanic that knows CJ's/4.2 *found*

After parking the CJ-7 three years ago because it was starting extremely hard, I thought I would try again this year to drive it. It is a 1984 with the 4.2 in it, 17X,XXX miles on it. Stock everything including carb and more vaccum lines than you have ever seen. Stock carb and computer.

When I quit driving it 3 years ago I could kill a battery trying to start it. Turn over for ever, then it would try to start eventually but would be flooded. Once it starts it idles great and you can drive it anywhere. Shut it off and take your chances of being stranded killing the battery trying to start it again.

I pulled it out of storage last week and with a brand new battery managed to get it started and over to the house. Last night killed a new battery trying to start it again.

I am over it and just want to get it somewhere to be looked at. Any good mechanics in the Holland/Grand Rapids area that know how to problem solve a CJ 4.2. I would rather have someone that knows their shit on the ins and outs of these things. My guess is that original carb may need to be changed over to a weber or motorcraft that works, vaccum lines taken off that are unused, possible nutter bypass, removal of computer, or more are all possiblities. PM me or post up.

Thanks,

Kevin

Try Adam at the Mobil station in Holland. I think it is on the corner of 32nd and Washington. On here he is frdboy. PM him and he usually answers back fairly quickly. I would halp you but carb issues are not anything that I am very good with.

Also check your coil wires I had problems with my 4.2 it would turn over but never start then we wiggled the wire closest to the distributor and it started up just fine now I have to rebuild carb because fuel flows back to tank

Thanks Gents, I am set up to have Adam look at it returning from Memorial day. Hope to be driving it again soon.
