Default 400 SBC engine- Great running (sold)

I just pickup up this motor for a project i was doing and i am changing direction to a big block so looking to get what i paid for it, and not a penny less or i will leave it on the engine stand

engine is complete from intake to oil pan, only thing missing is the timing chain cover... owner wanted to keep it, it was a special polished aluminum cover, has harmonic balancer and a Brand NEW flywheel

motor was pulled from a 1975 chevy plow truck that was completely rusted out

motor was rebuilt several years ago, previous owner says it has about 25,000 miles on it,
engine was bored out to .030, so i beleive that makes it a 406

in the last several months the previous owner installed a new RV Cam, and double roller timing chain and gears, was going to turn the plow truck into a mud truck... but the cab and box were rotted off the frame

I saw the truck run before the engine was pulled ran awesome, tons of power, didnt smoke, had great oil pressure over 50lbs

i confirmed the block # and casting #... It is a true 1975 400...

these engines are very sought after, and are getting rare... these go for twice this usually

i want what i paid for it.... $400 no less or i keep it

i planned to clean and paint the engine and use it as it sits.... this is a drop in and go, does not need to be rebuilt or anything else

also available i have an Edelbrock torker II intake and a holley 650 carb for another $100, i bought them to install on this engine

if you are staying a small block then a 400 is the way to go, instead of a 350.... lots of low end torque for big tires.... dont even consider a 305 or 4.3 not worth the effort to swap it in

i was going to put it in a 71 chevy stepside running 39.5 boggers, 5.13 gears, locked and spooled..... but i am going to keep my 350 for know and bite the bullet for a 502 big block when the time comes it needs swapped out

Yea the 400 is one of my favorite motors. I wouldn't even think about a 350 haha Maybe a 383 stroker but would rather just have the 400. Lotta guys say I should go with a TH400 for a trans, which is a great trans for that kinda motor, but I don't like automatics. Specially in a toy. I got a rebuilt Muncie M22 rockcrusher 4spd that would be perfect for your 400. More of a racing trans, because of the short gear ratio, but you don't need speed for crawling and such.
