Default Bell housing dial indicator recommendations

I am coming back to Michigan at the end of the month and wanted to mate the engine to the transmission. I have like 3 sets of adjustable dowel pins so I am set there, once I pound the stock old ones out.

I am looking for recommendations on a good dial indicator to use for aligning a 465 bell housing. I really only expect to use it for aligning the bell housing then expect it to get borrowed or lost before I return at Thanksgiving. I am curious about the ones under $200 from Jegs and such. But, accuracy> cost in this one time use application.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

I've built at least twenty axles with a $20 special from a traveling tool sale,I have never had a problem.I believe you are just trying to center your bellhousing? Even the cheapest dial indicator should work,as it will be consistently accurate,or consistently not accurate.

Taken with a camera phone last Thanksgiving. This is as close as I could get the 420 bell (sold to me as a 465 bell) to the motor due to the current pins. PO had a automatic on it I believe.

Bought a dial indicator/base kit one from Jegs, it is in the mail. Thanks for the help.

what engine is this? a 420 bell shouldn't even fit over the bearing retainer on a 465? sure you don't have a np435 bell or a pre '58 chevy? The dowel pins on my last 454 I had to hit with some emery cloth to get to fit - they were physically larger than the holes on the mid 60's passenger car bell I'm using.

The engine is a 70's 350. That cast bell was a 420, I was lied to it happens when you buy junk off the net. Cast 420 bells are very easy to find, cast 465 bells are getting harder. I will find something to use the 420 bell on later.
I have since bought 2 aluminum 465 bells both that were mated to 350's with all the used hardware and made sure they were the correct diameter for the 465.
