Default Ford Fusion or Chevy Malibu?

Anyone have any first hand knowledge on either of these? I have a much larger territory now and I'm looking to sacrifice some mpg's for something a little bigger, quieter, more comfy. Under 75K miles and under 15k price so that puts me in the 2007-2009 range. Thanks

Just bought a 2010 fusion. Drives great and is getting about 32 mpg paid 17000 for it with 48000 miles.

I should add it will be the 4cy Fusion since it gets better mpg. 26 mpg with the v6 won't cut it. I get 36-38 now.

I was actually looking to be between 10-12k but it seems like I'm not being realistic. I haven't looked at used car prices in a while and I'm a bit shocked to see how much they go for lately. I will put about 50-60k a year on it so I usually would get a 10k car with about 5 or 6 down and pay off the rest within a year. I didn't really want a 15-20k car that will be worth almost nothing in 4 years. Why? Whatcha thinking?

I have an 05 Honda civic with 200k on it so trade in value is minimal. I can get more selling it to a kid who wants to make it a race car with a fat muffler.

Why not a focus? Better mpg than a fusion and it's us built . The fusion is assemblied in Mexico.

Because I already have a very small econobox car that is loud and rides like shit. I honestly don't care where its made. I want the best car for my money that fits my needs and will last a couple hundred thousand miles....like my Honda.

And I'm more apt to buy a Ford or another Import over a Chevy/Chrysler due to not getting a buyout. But the malibu has grown on me a bit and the interior is pretty nice.

Had 2010 Fusion 4 cylinders with 27K miles. Mileage for normal driver will be 24-25 mpg in city and 27-29 for highway at 70-75 mph.

Drive like granny and coast MUCH.
City depend how traffic mostly 26-28 and highway 55-60 mph you be see 34-39 mpg with NO Cruise control or heat/ac or radio. Tires were at MAX pressure I think 40 psi something.

Short trip get HUGE HIT on mileage badly.

Aunt's 2010 Fusion 4 cylinders with about 50k miles. Trenton to Wixom and Saline. She say mileage is most time 29-32 at her prefer speed mostly like 80 mph. Winter it less like 26-27.

Only one thing I HATE how it shift. It want shift higher rpm than you prefer.

We have a 2010 Fusion and love it. Not a Ford guy either. Great car, rides quiet and nice handling. It has the 4 cyl and gets 26-27 ave 32-35 highway depending on hills and stuff. We also thought about the cruz . Both are nice cars.good luck.

I looked both those cars last year when I was in the market. I liked them both and preferred the 6 cylinder in each. Since my price range was closer to 10k, there were definately more malibus to chose from. Ended up with a 05 malibu v6 with 52k miles. It averages 27-29mpg with my mostly highway commute. Now with just over 100k on it I have only had minor electrical problems with it.

Bill pm'ed me some info but they're not that cheap. Shit the 2008-2010 ones are still over that. I may just deal with the civic for another 100k or so. There's talk of getting company cars in the next year anyway......but with my company that means two or three years.

I have an 07 fusion with 115k on it and never had a problem... one of the best rides I've ever had. Had a Malibu as a rental when I worked in SC, nice car and would recommend as well

I'd go fusion over malibu. My focus is growing on me quite a bit.

i know its not on your list but i say a grand prix with a 3.8L FTW

i normally average 28mpg (26mpg winter) in my 05 and on this work trip to ky this week i got 32mpg. ive put over 20k on mine so far in the past 5-6 months and haven't replaced a thing. although it does need breaks soon but that's to be expected out of a vehicle. not sure if they have the 3.8 in the Malibu if they do then id get that.
