Being a parent is much harder than anyone realizes until you are one yourself. Raising a child is pretty much trial and error and coping with these kind of issues are very hard. I feel bad for the parents and I hope they find Devon safe and sound.

To add on to your and rybebreads comments, I couldn't agree more. Somedays I stress out so much about the what if's and the things that my son MAY do 3, 4, 5, 10 years from now.....it's an "unfun" part of being a parent.

x500 bazillion.

Wondering if the way you are raising them now will prepare them to live in and survive in "the real world". Parenting is a marathon and unfortunatley you wont know how the turn out until waaaaay down the road. All you can do is guide them in a safe direction teaching them responsibility and to make good decisions. My wife thinks im too hard on the kids (ages 3,8,8) and I tell her that "the real world" is not easy and we need to prepare the kids to survive on their own when they move away, because its nothing like living at home with the protection of mom and dad.

Anyway, hope they find that kid!!

Casey,

Who found/has him? MSP?

My wife is out driving around with flyers with the neighbor, literally just got off the phone with her.

When they met this morning for the search efforts, there was supposedly a fan-out phone list established.

edit: confirmed. Fan-out call just hit Deb and Angie's phone. he's in grand blanc and healthy. Thanks to anyone that may have looked, or spread the word.

I've known many people and kids who have ran amok with lack of supervision and the same thing goes for those that were suffocated by their parents.

I think the key to being a good parent is to make your child understand why things are good/bad, right/wrong instead of just being their bff or an absolute dick.

When I was told no about something I was usually given a reason, not just "because I said so". To me that makes for a child that associates boundaries with reasoning.

I'd imagine you are probably going down the right path with your son.

yeah, I have an uncle who suffocated his kids, the two boys turned out all right, the girl is a little whacky currently.

It's a fine line, each kid is different. Finding the line and balancing on it is the hard part. And like was already said, you have no idea how well you are doing for a long time.

It's a fine line sometimes. It's not easy being a parent. I've never cried more or apologized to anyone more than I did my own children. And despite they paths they have taken, the one thing they know for sure is I love them.

I've kinda lost hope in the boy-child, still have faith in my daughter.

Never give up!

It's a tough call. It's so easy for someone to criticize saying you should have done this or that. The old "walk a mile in my shoes" applies.

Best thing I can say is keep the lines of communication open.
