This is for my prosthetic swimming knee.
The powers that be have determined that I do not need to swim or enter the water and are no longer supporting this device. Replacement is $10k+. So I'm on my own.

It is basically a hinge with a bushing style axle. I'm pretty rough on it as it is (daddy used to say I could fukc up an anvil). So my plan is to machine it for a replaceable sealed bearing. fit it with a stainless axle and hope it lasts longer than me.
With out this, my swimming, boating and water days are pretty much over.
I know there is a flaw in my plan, it just hasn't surfaced yet.

I haven't shopped for a bearing yet, but I'm sure a skateboard shop will have something. I'm still in the planning stage.

Keep in mind I only have one shot at this. There is no room for error.
What would you charge for such an endeavor?
Where is your shop?

Why? What's wrong with the Nylon? Do you have any dimensions on the sealed bearing you are looking for? I have some.

I am in Grand Rapids, and could possibly help you out. Would have to see it before I would commit our shop to doing it.

As shown in the pics the knee hinges on an internally threaded axle. I guess I need to go to a skate board shop and see whats what as far as sealed bearings.

A friend in the aerospace/mil industry tells me that because of the self lubricating properties of nylon that ss shaft should last a lifetime. I'm on my second one of these. The first one had carbon steel hardware that rusted in a short time. Who would have thought a swimming leg would rust?

Riding Dirty: The bearings would need to be stainless, sealed and a slip fit to the axle. I'll get off my ass tonight and get some measurements. Maybe come out and see what you got.

I'm in North Macomb County, Hartland would be good.

This is on my dime so I don't want it to cost an arm and a leg.

If you want to come out with your parts and a Mt. Dew I will do it no worries. Helping someone to walk is different than making a part for someones truck.

To all those who offered, thanks. +1 into your Karma bank.

I contacted the manufacturerer for suggestions. They said the bearings were a bad idea. The stainless shaft in the block of nylon, in a submerged enviroment is suppose to be superior to any bearing. The owner of the company called me and said being as it is out of warranty, and insurance will not repair or replace he said he will repair free gratis, forever. When I explained to him that I am rough on everything including my prosthetics (hell, daddy used to say "son, you could fukc up an anvil") he suggested letting me test out a prototype he is working on.

Once again, may god bless you all for offering.

gratuitous action shots

I was going to ask if you could put a flipper on it! ( but didnt want to sound like a dick) That's cool! Does it actually move at the ankle area and help with propulsion in the water?

The ankle locks in either the walking position or the extended for the flipper.
The knee sucks for walking.
