Wow, nothing like some idiot talking shit about one of the few companies that actually bother to support our sport/hobby. DTS is one of the first to sponsor any and all off-road events in this state and their staff (with some exceptions) over the years has been top notch. Do you think a post like this will make DTS more or less likely to sponsor an event in this arena next time they have the chance? I have dealt with DTS many times over the past 20 years and they are one of the only shops I will let work on my axles if I'm not doing it myself (Warren Gear being the other). In addition I have referred countless others to them and have NEVER had a complaint other than "They're so busy they can't get me in til next week". Just my $0.02, I'm sure that I'll get blasted now right alongside DTS on this forum for presenting an opinion contrary to the majority (which is why I seldom post), but I don't like seeing companies that actually take the time and resources to support wheelers being unfairly represented.

It's a gift certificate....not a $15 off coupon or a % off coupon, gift certificts should be just like cash, it agree with the OP on this one, it's not the amount, it's the principle

Whatever you want to call it....coupon or gift cert, The sole purpose of DTS handing these out is to get you in the door...sounds like the "special key that might start the brand new car" game that shady car dealers use. I agree with the OP, if they didn't expect to ever give the $50 off then why would they even bother handing them out

I really must not get it. If I walked into best buy and picked out a tv. Ask them to price match, they say ok. I then whip out a $50 off coupon, that would not fly.

If you went to a TV and Stereo convention and won a $50 dollar off coupon in their raffle wouldn't you expect to use it towards your next purchase? Fact of the matter is the $50 dollar coupon he "WON" will cost him an extra $400 if he wants to use it.

Not after bartering the price down.

It wouldn't matter if he bartered the price down or not....It is printed on the front that to redeem the coupon you pay retail price

Right. That's how most coupons work. I don't see where the confusion comes in.

He must pay retail to get the discount, but he didn't get it at their retail price. Their retail price was $400 more than the priced matched item.. I've never dealt with DTS, but from the sounds of it, their products are over priced, and that's why they can afford to give out $50 coupons. No company lets you price match and use a coupon. Them handing out coupons was a good marketing strategy, and it got you to go there correct? So you either pay retail and use your $50 coupon, or you price match and get $400.. Seems like you made out pretty damn well.

I also won 2 $50 "gift coupons" at Snofari and figured I would use them together to buy a stub shaft for $120, thus only costing me $20 out of pocket.

Wrong.

The disclaimer on the "coupon" says "recipient must spend equal or greater value of coupon at retail pricing to redeem".

So, to use a $50 coupon you need to spend at least $50 out of your pocket in conjunction with it.

Is it still a good deal? Sure, but I think it's deceiving and crap. It's put a bad taste in my mouth and and I've had nothing good to say about them because of this. I'm pretty sure it's the opposite of what they had hoped in "donating" these in regards to business.

Every gift certificate or coupon I've ever won has been treated like cash without having to spend cash to use it.

If they had done it the right way I very likely would come back as a repeat customer. But not now, I'll use the "coupon", then, never come back, and have only negative things to say about them every time their name comes up. Are they a bad company? I don't know, I'll just be giving my experience with them, and it wasn't good. My .02

I've only used them once. It was quite a few years ago but i remember the guy being kinda dicky. I bought a spool for a mustang i had, and returned it a few hours later. It took 3 weeks for the refund to show on my card. I had to go back after a week with my receipt, etc... Big headache from what i remember.
