Default Where to recycle computer systems? Fenton Area or Farmington Hills

I have about 3 old computer systems that I would prefer to recycle. Anyone know where to take them? I live in Fenton, work in Farmington Hills. Why is it always a PITA to do the right thing?

The rest of the heaps go to the curb the night before pickup, and are never, I mean never there in the morning.

I'm guessing the hilljack with the dog-walking, blown out rear springs 73 year old pick up truck that rattles through our area at 4:00 am is the culprit that "recycles" 'em for me, along with old furniture, old appliances and water heaters that have also had to be replaced in the past 10 years.

oh, and most big box electronics stores will recycle your old crap, but they typically charge you. Staples charges $10/ device if I recall correctly.

final thought, you could also just leave them on mike and kerry ann's front porch, their community is having a "household hazardous waste day" the end of the month.

I've got all sorts of nice things to take to them. Some batteries, some oil, maybe some old paint...

For once I'm going to make use of the services I overpay for.

I do the same except I put them in a blast furnace and recast them into boat anchors that I drop in the middle of lake Michigan.

having worked with some expensive data recovery tools in my former job, as well as knowing now how readily available they are from the open source market, it's more paranoia regarding identify theft, and/or financial information.

besides, who downloads porn since the days of 16 bit images on AOL?

There are eleventy billion streaming "tube" sites now a days - or hell as 89x pointed out this morning, bateflix lets you search for porn on netflix now

I am under the understanding that this is one of the things that should be recycled. When is garbage day at Kickstand Racing?

Best Buy will recycle for free. They may or may not charge to remove the hard drive if you don't already but they will not take it with the drive in it. Data privacy issues etc.
