i posted a while back about seeing a older mustang spin out into a ditch in the snow. i pulled them out and they had a flat so i followed them to the gas station. it was like 3 or 4 black dudes. ended up needing a ride because they didnt have a spare. so i say whatever and take them home. they tried giving me weed but i dont smoke so they gave me a couple 40s lol.

I had a GF about 10 years ago and we came across this man who was either mentally or physically challenged. He needed a ride and you could tell he had a small string of bad luck and was legit in looking for a handout. That chick I was with was like " don't give him a ride, bla bla bla..." I didn't, we argued about it and I almost went back after I dropped her at home. I regret my decision to this day.

The new girlie has a heart as big as mine and would jump in the back seat of my ranger if the same situation came up tomorrow.

I understand the world isn't what it was 20-30 years ago and there is alot more shadyness out there. All I can say is exercise caution, trust your gut feeling.
I also wanna add I don't pick up hitchhickers or offer rides. I see enough BS on the public transit system that out weighs the good in people.

The only stranded person I have ever helped is PavementPounder. He gave me all his monies and sent me to the store for trans fluid.

I have never stopped to help anyone else and I dont think I ever would. I am sure there are plenty of stories about women with babies and elderly being used to take advantage of good people trying to help out.

On the flip side of that, I wouldn't let anyone stop to help me either. I'll just wait for help that I can trust.

I dont usually stop for a hitch hiker. Every once in a while some one needs a jump or their window is stuck down, out of gas or a old lady with a flat. I will try and help them out if I can. I feel karma is a big part of our life on this planet. What goes around comes around and all that jazz. I try to do my good deed when needed and hope that if I need help someday it will come. I ALWAYS stop for someone in a lifted jeep on the side of the road and see if they need a hand.

That could be, but its going to take a lot of praying to get the greatness of Tebow out of my head. She didnt look like she had enough money for internet, and i dropped we dropped her off at what looked like a vacant house, so im going to guess she did not have access to GL4x4 anyway.

I have a co-worker who will never ride in a vehicle with me again. Had to give him a ride from our back gate to the front gate. Had an older Cherokee with a mild lift. He got in I said "Hold on Cletus!!" put the gas to the floor took off fish tailing and squealing tires, punched through two snow banks caught air off the second one and locked up the brakes at the front gate house. Though he was gonna have a coronary!! LOL Whole time he was trying to either hold onto the dash or get his seat belt on. It's not whether you get a ride with me as much as surviving the actual ride. Have always wanted to pick up a hitch hiker and do the same.

The answer is no... I don't give hitchhikers ridesso I keep driving. If I know someone I will stop, otherwise I dont have the mechanical skills to help others or the fighting skills to defend myself against a psycho.

I have the mechanical skills and lots of tools, but not the fighting skills. That's why I don't stop. If I see a broke down lifted Jeep (haven't yet) I will try to stop.

I bet I've picked up over 1000 hitch hikers. Most of them called, some of them I just saw and stopped.. But I also use to drive a wrecker. You meet some "interesting" people that way.

Try to judge the situation, but I have given rides or helped people out. Someday it will be me, broken down, in the middle of winter, and I hope to God someone pulls over and gives ME a ride!

It may not have been where she lived. She probably didn't want you to know where she lived in case you were a pycho.

Hitch hikers NO.
Dude sitting on a ramp No
People broken down I always stop for if I have the time though.
Most of the time it is something stupid like gas or such. What I won't do is pull someone out of a ditch or flat tow them with a strap. I will let them use my cell in that situation if theirs is dead or something.
I have had a lot of POS beaters growing up(I also got alot of speeding tickets). I had a 80 Firebird that blew a radiator hose going 80 on 131. The sudden blinding gush of water followed by me cranking the wheel to the right and slamming on the breaks into the emergency lane must have been a interesting sight. No one was around me at the time thankfully. Anyway I had these guys pull behind me a few minutes later. The hose had ruptured right at the neck on the intake. With 2 of us pulling we managed to get the hose on the neck(it was straight at that point) while the third one tightened the clamp. They even gave me a gallon of water. I gave them the $40 that I had on me and thanked them. It was enough to get me back to the house 12 miles away.
I pull over for people ever since. I will not help some kid that is stuck in someones field. You know it is wrong, there are places to wheel, you deserve to get caught if you do it.

I have been in a situation before where the closest place was 5 miles away. 2am driving a dual tank Scottsdale back from work. I had the truck for a week just put plates on it and did not have any tools on me at the time.
The ground/alternator bearings went out and the entire truck quit going 75 up 131 just south of Rockford. This was back in 97. I did not have a cell phone at the time. So my butt got to walk up to the Napa off of the Rockford exit. Walking is good for you and such. It was not a terrible night. Moonlit with clouds over head quite peaceful walk actually.

Generally if I see a broken down vehicle and someone walking toward the closest exit I will usually stop.
I won't go around pulling people out of ditches in the winter time. Some people like to do it. I think I might cause some damage and get screwed for helping them kind of deal. I will let them sit in my warm truck/car until a wrecker shows up though if I have the time.

Some random dude walking away from a town. No way. But, I won't intentionally splash them with water. That's a good way to get a bullet in your tailgate.
