I would say the tire has 0% tread left...

That totally sucks. However, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned those are old style MTRs, which have been out of production at least 3-4 years, maybe longer. So, if indeed you were recently sold them, you were sold old tires.

I've personally had old style mtrs on 3 vehicles and loved them. I wish they would bring that style back.

Lastly, I'm seeing lots of outside edge wear in the section of tire that is left. Unless its an optical delusion it looks like that tire was run with too low pressure for awhile, or on the front of a truck with alignment issues.

I'd say not to bash the tire. You don't know it's history.
I know 3 guys with f350's that have lost BFG all terrain's that way. Strange because none of them carry any weight or ever tow a dam thing.

And yes I run MTR's, new ones though.

that truly looks like the old version MTR. if so, check the date for curiousity.

probably several years old and would bet it was either dry rot causing it to de-laminate or a separation that got bad and caused the same condition.

sorry to hear about the truck, but glad you were not hurt.

I doubt that's an issue. I had mine quite a bit past that for some extended periods of time on the same truck and my bed dont look like that:thumbup:

I ran mtr's on the XJ for a few years. I thought they were great. And had them over 100 mph a lot of times for long distances. I never had any issues, even with my spare that had mild dry rot. I'm glad you were. It hurt, and I hope your truck gets repaired quickly. Keep us updated if you contact GY

Yea the tires were the older MTR's and not the mtr kevlar. My buddy is a manager at a discount tire and he personally mounted these for me and would not have done it if they didn't look good.

So progressive went out and took a look and will replace the tire. The only problem is this style tire is discontinued so now I will have two different kinds of tires on the truck. Another thing that kind of makes me mad is they are only replacing the bed side and I have a spray in bedliner that is probably 5 years old and faded a little bit. So when they replace my bed side they are just going to spray the new side with new liner and I'm afraid that its gonna look ghetto rigged when I go to sell the truck?

Opinions on what I should tell the insurance company? My feeling is that I have full coverage for a reason and that if I have an accident (and the did give me an at fault accident on my record for this) with a truck with matching tires and a not ghetto looking bed liner that is what I should get back

and on another note just to make my week worse my truck was broken into at the collision shop. My indash dvd player was stolen and my gauges were ripped out and wires cut but were all still there. You know what they say. When it rains it pours

You do not have to accept insurance quote. Ask to speak to another adjuster. If no luck, tell them you will not accept their bs and it will have to be settled in litigation. If you stand your ground (with some reason) they will make it right.

Years ago I totaled my Ranger in a freak accident. It was worth about $6,000 bluebook at the time, but had over $3,000 in reciepts for new stuff within the last 3 months. First quote they gave me was $1,700 for truck. I said no way, pled my case (to them, not in court) we settled for $7,200.

ALWAYS consider that insurance companies are going to cheap out. Consider the situation a negotiation, because it is. If you stand your ground they will fold, it just isn't worth their time.

I used to have the direct line to the manager your going to want to tell to piss up wind
His name is dan or bob I think, last name wood something....argue long enough with him and he'll start to give in or offer arbitration. That's BS they gave you an at fault claim.

Looks like a burnout contest tire explosion. Burn it till it blows .

That seriously fawked up the side of your truck. I have seen tire/rim come off and contact the bed side and not cause that much damage.

So were the tires used when your buddy put them on for you?

I had a TSL Radial come apart on my Dodge causing very similar damage. Progressive wrote me up as at fault as well.

I know it's not close, but might be worth calling Chealsea Paint and Restoration. Jason has been able to work with the insurance companies about upgrading some components on vehicles instead of getting same factory stuff. Might be able to help you out on the tire or bed thing.
