Default ...and tommorow brakes

well its saturday and I just got the drums off. it only took 5 hours . these are the worst brakes I have ever seen. the only things left are backing plates and the hubs. the drums are so bad I had to beat the drums with a sledge just to knock off enough rust they would turn with a 4' crowbar. then I had to cut the retainer pins to let the shoes fall forwards to pry off the drums. all the hardware is rusted in half and the wheel cylinders are rusted soild...nice truck . monday I guess I have to start gathering parts. by the way who has a old D 60 cover they could let me have? mines rusted through in 3 spots

I forgot the best part...I dropped the drum & hub on my air hose and sliced it in half.

Did you know they sell JB Weld in an economy size??

I have so many rust holes between the oil pan and the axle covers I just decided to grind them down and give a good coat of JB weld.

as for the Brakes... they have made major headway today. I have the entire system back together and the only thing I broke today was my flairing tool. as of right now I have to re install the drums & hubs, and bleed the brakes. I was even able to get the rusted off line ends out of the master & proportioning valve. so far so good.

well it holds oil...and it STOPS!

I even fixed the rusted through p/s return line

with the tires back on I took it down the driveway and hit the brakes and all 4 tires stopped. its been about 8 years if I got all my storys straight.
now I have to rebuild the auto hubs and replace the halfsahft joints. then the exhaust.

well I just finished the front axle & hubs today. I had to buy a new socket to fit the hubs for an extra $38. I put in new halfshaft joints and redid the spindle seals. they were all toast. I had so much rust I had to grind out the back of the brake pads for the layers of rust. I managed to get the exhaust leaks delt with where the air tubes rotted off. I re-blead the brakes and made sure they worked good. and the last thing I have to do is install the fuel tank I got from MudheadWade 2 years ago.

well it works. the blade is back on and its aimed out the driveway. I let my 13 year old drive it today after putting in a plug in the #8 cylinder cause it was fouled. it is solid now that the suspension all works and it runs smooth. I have a couple of things like brake lights to fix and thats it.
