That is a great beer. Actually, I love all the stuff that I have had from North Peak (I prefer Bell's Two Hearted over Diabolical though as far as IPAs go).

That's what I'm drinking right now. I will not be trying that one again.

I'm not a hop head, and the brewer at North Peak must not feel like it's beer unless the IBU's are through the roof. They do however have killer bottles, marketing, and pretty good food at the pub.

I've had about a case of Fat Tire since it's arrived on our shores. Smooth, tasty, good finish. Their canned 4 packs are pretty good too.

But pint for pint, Michigan, by FAR brews the best beers in the counrty.

By far? I mean Michigan brewers make some damn good beer; so do brewers in Colorado, California, Washington, etc... etc...

How do you like your IPA's? Clean crisp malt profile or more going on? Bitterness? Citrus notes? Fruity, grassy?

Well by kinda far

And absolutely, other states make great beer. Believe me, i've tried a hell of a lot of them.

But as a whole beer brewing state, stacked up against any other state, i think we have the best overall.

If you find yourself in California, try and get your hands on this. You and my dad have similar IPA tastes, this is his favorite.

I'm not doing a top 5 per state.
But
1. Cali - Stone IPA
2. Colorado - Avery IPA (Avery white rascal is a nice change of pace beer)
3. Delaware - dogfish head
4. Michigan - Shorts
5. Maryland - Flying Dog

The more I think about it, Flying Dog is probably not on the list.
I might put New Glarus on that list, might not.

This is like picking the top 5 best rap songs......

MI is pretty good. Bell's, Short's, Atwater, Founder's. Frankenmuth, Mt. Pleasant, etc...

I'd have to vote for Oregon. There are over 50 craft breweries between Portland and Bend alone. Neighborhood bars without a single A-B, Miller, or Coors product in stock. And an amazing number of folks there know beer. It's like beer nerdvana.

Going through Untappd, my current 5's by state, somewhat poor sample size on a few states.

1. Cali - North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, Firestone Walker DBA, Drakes 1500 Pale, 21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon Wheat (not a popular choice by others), Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale (oaked or regular)
2. Colorado - Great Divide Belgian Style Yeti, New Belgium LoF La Folie, New Belgium 1554, Boulder Planet Porter, Left Hand Fade to Black
3. Delaware - Dogfish Head 120min, Dogfish Head Raison de Etre, Dogfish Black & Blue, Dog.... anything Dogfish.
4. Michigan - Bell's Wild One, Shorts Aphasia, New Holland Poet, Jolly Pumpkin Bam Noire, Founders KBS

Randoms...
Goose Island Pepe Nero, Pere Jacques, Sofie, and Matilda
Brianless on Peaches Epic Brewing Company
Karnival Kolsch Stoudts Brewing Company

I love beer.

I love beer.

I had the Watermelon Wheat at the Put-In-Bay brewery. It was pretty good.

Meijer had the New Belgium stuff on sale and I tried the Ranger IPA & Red Hoptober. The ipa was ok nothing great the Red Hoptober was by far the best of the 3 I have tried. I will stick to Founders, Bell's & Dark Horse unless I can find the 10th anniversary Utopias.
