Default License Fee Hike

Has anyone seen or heard anything about this yet? Sorry if the is a or the wrong forum.

http://www.mlive.com/news/index.ssf/..._river_default

Gov. Rick Snyder recommended increasing the off-road vehicle license fee from $16.25 per year to $35 starting in fiscal 2013, and then up to $45 the following year.

What are your thoughts on this issue?

My bad on the grill. Figured it was new enough that no one caught it yet. Let this one die and use the other thread for discussion.

I have seen some of the logging operations that are around the trails and they do destroy the trails in my opinion. I understand that they need to cross them and that limbs will fall where limbs fall, but please take a few minutes to grad the 4" limbs that are crossing them. The most fun was when my dad and I rounded a corner to see a sign that was for a prescribed burn area. The trail snaked right through the middle of a char coal briquet.

If the money actually goes to trails ans parks I am OK with spending a little more, but if it ends up in some other fund when there is a surplus I am not OK with that.

This seems to be where my feelings lie as well. My trail permit should be used on the trails, not asian carp, my fishing license is for that.

Yea they would be nice trails if they were cleaned up some. You can see the trails blocked off with logs from 61! It's a shame

Yea, almost double, I can't blame this on Snyder, its due to lax laws on people in Detroit etc who drive around with no plates time and time again.

If you notice any ORV routes, trails, or MCCCT trails that you feel need to be maintained please contact the DNR. They will direct the appropriate group to fix the issue.

The DNR themselves do not maintain the trails. There are grants given to clubs and organizations who volunteer and maintain the routes and trails. This goes only for designated routes and trails.

If you use the ORV routes (NOT trails) in the St. Helen/Ogemaw Hills area you can contact me AFTER you notify the DNR of the issue. SoFO Maintains those routes.

I would guess he is seeing former logging roads, or two tracks closed off by the DNR to try and "restore" the area. It's very common for the DNR to come in and drop trees down a length of "trail" to prevent people from using it. I would be very cautious before "cleaning up" any trail.

Pretty much idiotic comments in this thread. Maybe those of you complaining should do a little research about how the monies are spent. If you want direct answers, contact phittie.

Also, if you would take time to read info in the land use forums, your answers would already be found here.
