Default 2002 b150 rear axle posi?

my friend has a 2002 dodge b150 3.9 v6 auto cargo van.
is this the same 8.25 rear axle like in the rear of a newer cherokee?
he got stuck a few times in the snow this year, and wants better traction.
its got good snow tires, and a 600lb snowmobile inside. still not great.
is the trac loc option even worth a try if he found one cheap?
are all 8.25 posi carriers the same?
if i found a trac loc from a cherokee, would it work?
thx,
joe

I don't know exactly what model it is but I thought all of those had the nine inch Chrysler corp axle in them... 9.25? Same style as the half ton truck and ramcharger had.
