I always have too, there was one house down the road, where I grew up, that had a problem. Nice people but I think they were just lazy. I'm pretty sure the parents grew up in a different type of neighborhood. After the parents died and the kids got into their 30's the yard cleaned up and looked nice.

I don't live in an association, but my yard and general appearance of my house is neat. I keep all my vehicles in the side yard and try to tuck them in the woods so they are not too obvious. I don't leave piles of parts or "stuff" laying around.

Call your association, city, or township. I think what happens is they come out and cut it and send the bank a bill.

Seriously if your house is an eyesore clean it up.. don't wait for your neighbor or city official to ask you.

I don't have the time or desire to go have a heart to heart about why the guy can't keep his lawn somewhat tame. Honestly if you can't keep your lawn from getting a foot deep you aren't worth me wasting my time to try to explain to you why you are the white trash of the neighborhood.

these are all good points, but I suppose it depends on who you are dealing with and where they live. If my neighbors had a problem with me I would probably stop what I was doing and figure out something different because I respect my neighbors and would want them to treat me the same way. I think today there are a lot of selfish people out there that only car about themselves and fukc everyone else.

Now if you move into an area with an association then I'm pretty sure you sign a contract agreeing to keep your house neat and clean. If you move into a neighborhood that does not have an association I think you have a moral (not legal) obligation to maintain your house that fits with the rest of the neighborhood.

I had the neighbors call on me. When I first brought my big wrecker home it was in the side yard and had the little wrecker in front of it and the deuce beside it while I was working on it for two weeks. Probably a few parts laying around. Once I got the engine running I moved it and put the other vehicles in their holes in the woods and picked up the yard. That is when the township guy showed up and looked around. He mentioned that the vehicles needed to be registered. I told him that they were designed for off road use and did not need to be registered. Call the state police motor carrier and ask them. He came back two weeks later and said the case was closed. When he called the MSP they told him that I call down there all the time to make sure I am doing everything legal and that what I told him was correct. I have not had a problem since.

We had about 3 foreclosures on our street that got this treatment.

It looked better before they cut it. The lawn resembled a retard cutting his own hair.

LOL at you thinking a homeowner should be told by a neighbor to clean up his trashy yard.

I don't live in a neighborhood with a homeowner's association but luckily the city is very proactive about stopping things before they become a problem. If the grass in your yard gets above a certain height, the city will send out a crew to cut it and tack the fee onto your property taxes. They are very quick about it too - I think the height limit is 6" or 8" and I've never seen a property get much beyond that.

Luckily, I don't live in the 'hood so trash strewn properties or yards with car parts all over the place just don't happen here. The closest would be when a house is under construction or being renovated, but even then the crews are very good at keeping things neat and orderly. Beginning about a half mile north, all the houses are 6,000+ sqft on lots of an acre or more. I can only imagine the stink some of those folks would raise if something like the link in the first post was happening next door to one of them.

LOL at people who dislike government intrusion into their affairs but will rat out a neighbor rather than knock on the door and see if there is a problem.

Next door neighbor didn't shovel her snow last time, so I got it for her. Turns out she was in the hospital with a hernia.

What happened to people taking some sort of pride in the way their home and yard look?

But would it be so difficult to knock on the door and ask if they need a hand?

If they tell you to fukk off and slam the door, by all means report em. But maybe they having a rough patch.

That's what keeps me where I am- no, the houses aren't all showpieces, but the neighbors communicate. We have no breakins on our street, although it's going on all around us. Hell, we're only a mile from Day-Twa.

I couldn't imagine living in a 'neighborhood' where no one talks to each other. I really hope that's not your case.

I don't even cut my own grass anymore. Am I supposed to pay our guy to go cut his or drag out my lawn mower and do his lawn and watch our guy do mine at the same time?

funny, you completely missed bloomules point, which is funny again, because you often talk about the government poking their nose into your business and regulating portions of your life.

No I completely got his point and that's still my stance.

I think you confuse me with the people on this board that feel we should abolish the government and tear up the law books.

No, but you could give them your lawn service's number.

My bad.

But really, if they aren't able to get a contact off the side of one of the 50 trucks cutting grass daily in the area, the daily ads hooked on your mail box, the daily ads left on your door knob, or the daily adds they mail to you I highly doubt me giving them our guy's number is going to be the winner.

Sorry, I just can't picture a neighborhood where the people don't look out for and help each other. That's just sad, really.
