Exactly! If I have something listed for $5000 and in my head I would take $4000 what if I tell them that and they would have been willing to spend $4250? Make an offer or leave me alone.

You guys are all whiney cry babies. If you post something for sale, expect people to try to get a better price any way they can.

I like it when people make cash offers, and when you accept, they don't have the cash.

Sold a car last year to a kid who offered me $1200 cash (asking $1500). I looked at him and said sure. He responded with "I have $500 now and the rest tomorrow". don't make a low offer if you don't have the cash to back it. He was 16 and his mom was standing there letting him learn how to buy a car. She chuggled when I told him don't make offers you can't back up on the spot.

i always ask 'whats the most you are willing to pay?'

i hate phone haggling, but its gonna happen when people are interested in something hours away from home

My personal favorite is the extreme lowball offer and the response of "I'll call back in two weeks to see if you changed your mind" When you refuse said lowball offer.

I had to do this to trail junkie lol. Work only allows me to get to the bank Monday am, I pulled a deposit out of the atm before I went to poke n prod, made the offer, with a specific day of when I would get the rest of the $. Our work scheaduals conflicted so it was a week later.

Just had some idiot on Craigslist doing this.
Had my industrial retractable Air hose reel for sale on craigslist, listed for $60 (sell's new for $180).
Had one guy first offer me $25 CASH, of which I didn't respond.
Next day he offered $27, then $30. He got up to $35 and in that e-mail he said he'll be waiting with the $35 in hand when in a week it still hadnt sold and i'm desperate for the cash. LOL

Never responded to him but sold it for asking price the next day lol.

I don't mind 'bottom dollar' questions. They're quite annoying when that's the first and only question the buyer asks so in those cases I, usually, politely decline and keep communication channels open. If the buyer asked good questions, demonstrates they're a serious buyer, and uses 'bottom dollar' to expedite the negotiation I'll give them a number. At that point, it's a yes or no decision for the buyer.

Someone did this to me with a TV a couple years back. I had two identical sets, one working, one not. Guy offered me about a third of what I was asking, which wasn't much to start with ($60 for a 27" Phillips) and said "I'll pick it up from the curb when you throw it out"

Sold it the next day for $50, took the non working one and shot the shit out of it with a BB gun and put a sledgehammer thru the screen. Sent him a pic, saying 'it's out at the curb, come and get it'

I've had a few people low ball, and then follow it up with "I've got cash."

That line makes me chuckle.

The best was when selling a rooted droid x on craigslist and some "homeboy" calls me and says he has $75 CASH MONEY for a phone that was selling for $200.

I don't sell as much stuff as a lot of you do, so maybe not as big of a deal to me. If you make me a reasonable offer, I'll respond. But the whole "give me your lowest price" as the first point of negotiation is simply someone farting in a strong breeze - I don't pay it any attention and usually do not respond. I'll negotiate a fair price if you are willing to negotiate, otherwise please move along. Kind of like having a battle of wits with a mentally challenged individual.

Yeah, I'm sure you have not mumbled under your breath at the stupid offers that had to have come in when your jeep was for sale.

My favorite was a guy buying a crank and rods from me for his kids stroker build. After looking it over and knowing what my asking price was, "what do you gotta have for it?" "As much as I can get out of it." "Seriously, what do you need for it?" "Cash". "Alright well how much?" "$200." "You were only asking $100!" "" "What's so funny?" "Your lack of negotiating skills." "Listen man I have cash right now." "$100 or I put it back in my garage and i'll wait for the next guy" "Ok, here's $100."

I really hate people that think because they can offer me cash for it, that i'm going to take some money off the asking price.
"I'll offer you $1200 cash" (asking price i $1500)
"sure, throw in another $300 bucks and i'll give you the title too"

It's funny how people think the "cash" offer is a sweetener for the deal. I don't know about you guys, but I don't take checks. I am getting one of these though https://squareup.com

I'd be worried about some of the low lifes you find doing a charge back or something.

Im like Joshua cripe I only sell to people I like.
my response starts off the same... "my asking price is listed, it's your turn to pay that price or make an offer, that's how OBO works"
I don't want to waste too much time with guys like this to explain it as much as you do LOL

If I do throw out a price, it's still higher then my true bottom dollar, expecting the person to low ball me under my "bottom dollar"

At 0toncaddy's bachelor party one of the guys threw $200 on his credit card with one of those because people hadn't pitched in quite enough for the "special" dances. The skanks did what they were paid for, then he immediately went out and called the credit card company to stop/cancel the payment without the strippers/bouncers knowing. Saw him a month or 2 later and he said he still got charged
