I know Chrysler was building some mini vans for VW. I wonder what we were getting in return? the reason I say is my wife `09 Liberty has an issue with the heater. when its on feet or dash it smells like melted crayons? swear to god its like they are being burnt on a hot plate some days. if you flip it to defrost the smell dies down for no good reason?
the odd thing was it didn't do it till about 3000miles ago. just started doing it out of the blue. before you ask nobody has had crayons in her jeep... and no I don't smell like a hippy.

I worked at a import car garage from the mid eighties untill 2000.The vws do have a distinkt smell,it is money being burn't at a faster rate then usual..

I put some exaust on a 2000 jetta friday, reminded me of old times. The engine viberated the same, the shifter felt the same as any old wc vw,the clutch felt the same, like it wanted to stay on the floor.

I remembered why I hate vws when I went to the parts store,$400 my cost for a cat and one gasket. You have to buy a cat to fix the leaking flex joint, because of how they build shit. The best part is that the convertor is empty, nothing in it,no platinum,no gold,no angel dust, nothing.

Air cooled vws smell like oil,bo,and bad weed.
Watercooled vws smell like warm trash, wasted money, and bad engineering.

[QUOTE=joe_jeep;2982288]its from all the dirty hippies that drove them!

Hey now, my 85 year old mom just gave her 2001 Beetle to my daughter when she turned 16. I don't remember seeing her sitting around smoking weed when I was a kid.
I've always wondered why the hell that car stinks like that, glad to know it was all of them, not just the one we've got. It might be worth replacing the carpet in it if that's what really causes it.

it is weird how certain cars have a unique smell. i agree with vw smelling like crayons, the newer toyotas have a smell, and any car that a beaner drives smells the same. i think its the food they eat.

I can vouch for this.

I have been within smelling distance of Yetti, and he does NOT smell like a hippie.

Yes, but it's very weird that a car 11 years old would still stink. You would think that whatever was causing the smell would have dissipated by now.

Thanks BooMule.. I guess?

I must say on the unique smell to certain vehicle perspective you all ain't never smelled anything like a Beijing Jeep. they smelled as bad as a dollar store toy isle.
