Default What year is my 460?

Can someone tell me what year my 460 is that I just bought. The numbers on the block is D9TE-AB. Also can you tell me what each digit means.

D9TE is a 79 truck block. It's a good block, has longer cylinders for stroker applications.

Yea, it started production in 79 but ran for years. The numbers are actually engineering numbers and not casting codes. The deeper cylinder walls were for the heavy equipment trucks that used longer piston skirts. The most important note for that engine is that it's externally balanced. You cannot fit an internal balanced crank in it due to the cylinder extensions. You're going to find that the aftermarket parts are all going to support the internal balanced engines much more than the external.
