what was said about the fiero and there body kits pretty much sums up this horrid excuse for a ride.

as for your numbers 7-10k for the body. the 1-2k truck is going to need frame and motor work, and your not going to have it sitting stock so your going to have to lift it as well, and your going to want min 33's and that means new tires and rims also plan on re-gearing so now your out at least 6k right there. then you will need seats, stereo, etc... so there is anther grand fifteen hundred. so now your at 17k min and you haven't even put it together yet. SO put it together get it all painted up and and finished your kissing 20k. and thats for a kit car that 80% of the people don't want 95% people know its a fake. And you don't even get the off road ability of the real thing.

and and Your gonna want a winch for that look so add in anther grand...

so for 21-22k your 8-9k away from the real thing with the right running gear and a diesel... I bet if you had 28k cash in hand that sweet red hummer could be yours and you wouldn't look like a poser from 2001

but what do I know I am just an opinionated asshole

There used to be a guy in Flushing that had one of the military ones. His name was Joel. I'm not sure what happened to him or the humvee. I do remember hearing someone say that the frame broke in half. Back when we used to hang out with him I know it had serious rust issues in the frame. Apparently there is a bit of a design flaw and when they drive them into seawater the water gets in the frame and really has no place to go... He was always talking about a frame swap, but by the sounds of it he didn't get it done in time.

It sure was a blast to go wheeling in. It felt like you were wheeling in an unstoppable school bus.

I believe a few ex military units were also converted for DNR/DEQ/Fire Trucks over the years, and they in turn have been auctioned off.

I can't recall exactly, but I think the last one that the MI DNR/Fire unit sold off pre-dated the civvy versions by model year and someone pointed that out.

It was the 2 door cab variant/hatchet job used for brush fire management.

so is the point of putting the humvee body on my superduty to make it perform better, or is it to make it look neat-o?

Last I knew Joel still had it. He had to put a new frame and engine in it.

This x a lot.

The one on Extreme 4x4 turned out cool because they probably spent 200k on it, had a team of top notch guys working on it after the cameras quit rolling.

I bet in reality you would be hard pressed to have less than 15-20k into that thing without making it an absolute piece of fabricated stool.

Interesting concept...

I really can't afford a 10,000 square foot house. However I could afford to buy a couple dozen shipping containers and I have a welder.

http://www.racingtree.com/hum_project.html

here's a build... he says over 24k invested. but this one is supposed to be a DD nice vehicle.

i'm sure for just a toy with less custom interior you could do it for less.

but either way, he says the same thing about why he built it. he wanted something different.

well our local pull and save sells engines(any type) for 150$ and you can get a frame from anyone for less than 1000. so you'd just have to wait for a good deal. i was just giving a general number. anyone can get anything cheaper than someone else or find a good deal when your looking hard enough.
