I read your post but your idea of properly trained and the law may differ. If you did not know me or my family and saw us on school grounds with a weapon what would you think/say?

Do you consider a federal law enforcement officer properly trained?

Oh look, an accident, in a school no less. We better just ban guns...it's for the kids.

Well, all I did was answer the original question...................

Can he? Yes
Should he? No
Why? Because people panic too easily.

The part that surprises me is that after being a tool and shooting himself he wants to bring out a long arm..
Total idiot, and all he is worried about is that he won't be able to show guns anymore.
Auch.

Because the person in question was at a voting booth. I suppose they could have set the booth up in a classroom, maybe it was a government class.
Okay, I see your point. I retract my statement.

My school ad a security guard with a 45 in a hip holster, and a 380 on his calf. A bit of overkill for a school of country folk, but nothing major ever happened except a few drug dog searches. And someone wrote a bomb threat in the bathroom stall. Which the security had no way to control. But i would not change a thing. I liked having an armed security guard, and believe every school should

My only point before this got big was for him to vote at a place where it was less controversial to carry. I believe he will bring negative attention to CPL holders.

I know properly trained is a vague comment and it is also another debate.

I just want to make the best possible effort possible to make sure the person with a gun in school has the best training in order to use it efficiently without accidental collateral damage in a fire fight.

The only thing worse than 3 kids being killed by a bad guy in a school is 4 kids killed because someone without the best training shot a child while actually trying to defend them.

Jimmy, having talked to you at the Christmas party, I feel you are a reasonably intelligent person, and you are also aware that even at my best my appearance falls under the 'questionable' label.

So, if I was voting in your children's school and was open carrying a pistol, would you feel comfortable?

Hell I don't even make the 'questionable' label. Damn.

In all honesty?
No, but it doesn't have anything to do with appearance. I don't judge by personal appearance. I've meet a lot of good looking assholes in my life along with a lot of really great ugly basterds.

If someone open carried into school, I would in all honesty tell them I was uncomfortable along with the other parents and ask them if they would please not carry where my children go to school even if it was his right.

If you open carry into a school, I believe you are doing it to make a point.

Thank you for your honesty- and yes, I believe the person who carried into the school did it just to make a point.

Does anyone know if there are any state or federal laws restricting guns (concealed or not) at a polling location while the polls are open?

I could see an issue with vote intimidation coming from this. Just wondering.

OK, what am I missing? most of you are saying he legally can carry in the school, yet on the fist MSP link it clearly says schools a gun free zones. Doesn't gun free zone mean no guns in the zone?

I've never really followed all the gun laws, so I honestly am confused here.

What i am getting, is you can open carry on school premises, but not concealed carry?
