Default PSA: What to do when you see an ambulance

A brief message;

When you are driving and you see an ambulance with it's emergency lights (and maybe siren) turned on, the proper response is to move out of the way by preferably moving to the right and stopping until it's passed.

Proper responses do NOT include slamming on your brakes no matter where you are, continuing to drive your slow ass in the way of the ambulance, or flipping off the driver when we pass you.

Also, if you're trying to turn onto a main road, and you notice that everyone is pulling over and stopping while there are absolutely no stop signs or traffic signals nearby, this isn't your signal to turn out of the subway on Eureka east of Allen Rd while we're running lights and siren at 50mph.

I'm looking at you, Mr Black Grand Cherokee with the GL4x4 sticker. You dumb mother fucker, drink bleach. Better yet, don't... because then I'll have to respond to that too.

~$129K in casino cash says nobody confesses.

Or we may get lucky and somebody rolls on him/her for the dough.

And when I'm stopped at a busy intersection with nowhere to go and crossing traffic is electing to not yield, pulling up on my ass (instead of going around using the empty lane next to me) and then laying on the siren and air horn repeatedly, ditto the bleach.

Unnecessary.

I've seen my coworkers do that and it pisses me off just as much. If need-be, I will always go one more lane to the left. If I can't go to the left, I will lay on the horn. I can't pass on the right, though. It's against protocol and I believe it's illegal.

I didn't get too good of a look at it, because I was too busy hanging on for dear life in the pt compartment and just caught a glimpse of the truck out the rear window. I believe it was a ZJ with maybe a small budget boost. GL4x4 sticker on the back window, all tinted out.

I will donate all of my casino cash for any pics posted of said vehicle with a giant rubber dong attached to the front bumper.

If I'm in one of the Ford chassis trucks, you could probably out-walk my ambulance. The Duramax trucks will give you a run for your money though. For being 16k pounds, those things move out.

OK, I'm calmed down now that I've had a chance to eat and take a leak without a damn call coming in. The offer still stands for the casino cash though.

It erks me to see someone move over and keep going when a wambulance is coming. you pull over and STOP ! (aside from freeways) they dont need to be worrying about weather you're gonna dart over a lane or not. This is basic drivers ed shit.. Which brings me to my next point..

Why isn't it harder to get and keep a drivers license in this state ? why the fukc don't we require a retest when you renew your license ?

hahah..yeah I think "how to drive around emergency response vehicles" has been left out of the driving curriculm for a few years at least.

Was at belle Isle a few weeks back and a DFD Engine pulled up..First thing I noticed was that the front bumper that would normally be chrome was a dull RED..closer inspection revealed that they had attached a thick steel C-Channel type beam to the front..more then likely for "escorting" vehicles out of the way..

Big difference campared to the shiny chrome bumpers our rookies lovingly polish at my station..wouldnt dare use that to move a car..

When I as in drivers ED (11 years ago) They preached on this. I just think people forget what to do. Same goes with School buses. Half the people I've talked to don't know what to do around a School bus when it's overhead lights are on. The other half is too busy on thier cell phone to notice.

If an emergency vehicle is involved in an accident passing on the right with emergency warning systems activated they are at fault(at least in Canada)
