This show amazes me. It does make me think I should have some extra food on hand and maybe some water, but I can't imagine living life just to prep. That crazy fat lady with the bed sitting on water jugs amazed me too. I think a lot of these people are organized food hoarders.
I think I may buy a few bags of dried rice, dried beans, and have some water. I figure I could heat water using the fireplace if necessary.
I am learning what typical yard plants are edible now from learning how to feed my tortoise.
I suppose if they didn't have the biggest weirdos they can find on the show, it wouldn't be entertaining.

They will need food because they can't keep enough food or water in that little apartment. And no she does not work out 6 days a week for 4 hours and yes she is crazy.

People on these shows are out there. I watched ones where they used the bomb shelter for a weekend re treat thats got to be good for little kids growing up. If doomsday happens it happens I got my billy truck I just need to obtain a 50cal to mount on a turret in the bed and go zombie hunting .

i will defintely agree that most of those people are bat shit crazy, definitely more hoarders then preppers. But IMO our society is pretty fragile so it really wouldnt take that much too push it over the edge. Nothing wrong with having some level of preparedness.

So true, well put. Best to be prepared but unlike the hoarders in the show I am not aware of too many people that can spend 8 hours a day or thousands of dollars week after week to "prepare". I think being reasonable in the way it is approached works best.

After listening to these shows in the background I think that our plan is going to be food and water to last 2-4 weeks. Probably more like 4 weeks just to be safe.

In my opinion if something has caused that big of problems that after a month of chaos grocery stores still aren't open, gas stations are still closed, FEMA isn't distributing supplies, or some other sort of government assistance isn't in effect I think we have hit the point of no return.

At that point I'm going on the hunt for the people that thought 50,000lbs of food protected with good will was the best plan of action.

Some things I do think that would be a good thing to accumulate are books. Books and manuals on how to do things that you would Google now. Edible wild plants, basic medical care, prescription drug identification and usage guides, etc...

As a society we take EVERYTHING for granted. We expect the switch to turn on a light, the faucet to run water, heat to blow out of the vents, the phone to make a call, gas pumps to fill up tanks, stores to sell food, etc... The day those things start to falter shit is gonna get thick fast.

I cant believe the money some of those people have wrapped up in there supplies, its one thing to prep for lving, whole different thing to live to prep.

Reasonable was a good choice of words..... however it waved bye bye to those people along time ago

Better preparedness would be survival skills, not a ton of crap you need a semi to haul.

If you can't walk out of town with it, you don't need it.

Best preparedness would be not telling anyone on national TV or otherwise that you have all this stuff stock piled...then just turn up missing. If anyone comes to take your stuff, shoot em....if they are still moving after an hour shot em again...in the head and or face. best bet is to find a small group that you can use to survive.......just sayin.
