Default Sno*blind 2012

Sno*blind 2012 proved to be quite entertaining this year. I had planned on taking minimal pictures and video, but the action said otherwise.

I should have known it was going to be a long weekend when the ride up on Friday was on ice covered roads trying to avoid all the cars sliding off the roads and into each other, including the big pileup on 75 (That we just missed by getting off at the Bridgeport exit and taking back roads)

This was part of the ride up

Well after taking 4 hours for a trip that should have taken a little over 2, we arrived at the hotel just in time to unload the jeeps and get right in the line for the night run (didn't even have time to check in) Figured what a better way to unnerve by going right out and hitting the trails.
The night run had a few fun spots here and their and then we hit the hill of horror. The ice covered hill that proved to be quite challenging for 4 JK's. 4Lo was the ticket to success. 4Hi and locking up the brakes put you in the trees.
The yellow JK should be thanking his copilot. He was at the bottom of the hill sideways in the middle of the trail when one of the other JK's came barreling down on them. The passenger yelled for him to hit and he drove right into the woods as far as the trees would let him. If it wasn't for that, then somebody probably would have gotten hurt. Fortunately, everybody was ok.

The hill and then some of the damage with a little sound in the background

After getting back from the night run just after midnight we went back out to help with the recovery of the disabled silver JK.

A short wheelbase tow rig and a high clearance trailer were the ticket to get it back to the hotel. One of the ice covered hills provided a challenge so a little tug was in order.

I didn't know you guys were on the night run as well! I got to be the lucky passenger in the Maroon JK that night. Drive nosed over the hill to see what was going on since he had no CB. We saw the yellow JK go sideways and then we started sliding, was along for the ride from there.

The "lucky passenger" was the one in the yellow JK. Or should I say the one that was lucky was the driver of the yellow JK. Lucky to get out of the way.

Wow, that's a lot of damage.

For those in the Ann Arbor/Jackson area, you may want to call up Jason (aka Deuce) at
Chealsea Paint and Restoration 734-475-2774

Some pics of the ride up

this guy cut in front of me less than 1/2 a mile before... oh well.

I like how he was headed towards the sign that says "bridge may be icy"

the 2 cars that took out the Bridgeport exit sign. (there was air bag deployment)

got off of I 75 to take the back roads. The roads weren't any better, but there were a lot less idiots to have to avoid

More night run carnage. 3 jeep jam.

a near miss (as in a near miss of t boning the yellow jk)

he went in the woods as far as the trees would let him

2 of the trees were behind the bumper and inside the tire pushing on the flare

You didn't get out, but I did, and yes, it was COLD

Joe giving a tug on the recovery truck with the trailer and JK

recovery truck and trailer getting a tug up a hill

recovery trailer

Using a BFH to assist with the steering (he almost missed the tire a couple of times)

Only 20 minutes on the trails and then we hear on the CB that "there's a jeep on the side".
The group behind looks at each other and asks, "could you repeat that?". Yes, there is a jeep on it's side.

Nobody got hurt and as far as we could tell there was no damage. Just a nice imprint in the snow.

3 jeep recovery

Thanks again for helping out on Friday night/ Saturday morning. It would have been hard to recover Matt's JK without your help. Chris and Matt in the Chevy were heros as well.
Overall .... You can't beat a night run that ends at 3 am!

Damaged Jeep owners live in the Lake Orion or Farmington Hills area. However, the folks with the 2 door were from Illinois- this was their first Snoblind trip .... Hopefully not their last.

Well Lake Orion & Farmington Hills aren't that close but the nice thing that we can do to help is that we are a 4x4 parts dealer as well. So take a front bumper for example: say your insurance will pay $800 for a stock bumper but you want an aftermarket one that costs $1000, we can work with your insurance and we can purchanse and install the aftermarket one for you. Then you would only have to pay the $200 difference to get the bumper you wanted and you get the convience of getting it all done in just one place. That could just make it worth a little extra drive.
