Surprised nobody has brought up the suspending of habeas corpus on the board...are you guys just ignoring the fact that this fundamental right is being taken away. No big deal? No clue what I'm talking about?

Apparently Congress is setting aside 20 MILLION DOLLARS for a celebration in honor of sucess in Iraq. Am I the only one who sees something wrong with that?

no, actually it's what the politicians are doing to make it on the Daily Show that is funny. They are just highlighting it...;)

"Guantanamo Bay Concentration Camp"

"deported to the police state of Saudi Arabia where every Friday they conduct public floggings and executions"

ok, well when the person writing an aritcle starts to go off on their own opinions, that's usually when I stop reading the article. Clearly this is worded for a certain agenda. What ever happened to simply putting the facts out there and letting the public decide? Oh yea, this is corporate America, everyone has an agenda to fulfill.

Gitmo is a detention facility, not a concentration camp. Nobody is being gassed or otherwise executed there. They live better than most of thier relatives back home, I feel no pity for them. This was a clear attempt to associate President Bush with the Nazi movement.

Saudi Arabia didn't seem like a "police state" the last time I was there. And the public flogging and exectutions... are a part of thier religion and culture. Maybe we should invade to stop these "crimes agains humanity".

"The United States hasn't suffered a "Rebellion" or an "Invasion" Lincoln's and Grant's administrations. There are no foreign armies on our soil, seizing our cities. No states or municipalities are seriously talking about secession. Yet the U.S. Senate wants to tinker with habeas corpus."

There is no army on our soil eh? You sure about that? You're POSITIVE that the guy you don't know, never see come out of his house at the end of the block isn't tied into some kind of terrorist network somehow? Part of the tens of thousands of foreigners on US soil here illegally? Are you willing to bet your life on it? Your wife, mother, father, sisters, brothers, children or girlfriends life on it? Perhaps you are... but the people responsible for protecting us aren't. And I happen to think it's a good thing that they care. I don't think they "tinker" on a whim, I think that we're faced with a grave problem.

The face of war has changed. No longer do two armies meet on a field of honor and wage war with clearly defined sides. I've studied war as my profession for 17 years now, and I'm still amazed at what I learn on an almost daily basis. The levels of weaponry, intelligence, and manipulation are staggering. Terrorists have struck at our home, and will do so again. It's not a matter of 'if', but 'when'. I don't make that statement to instill fear, or gain leverage as I admit, some current politicians do. But from a military standpoint, it's a fact. It's what I would do if I were them.

I know that I have nothing to hide, I do not conduct suspicious activities. I do not have reason to fear my government. In fact, I vote; so my government has reason to fear me. As much as we love to complain as Americans... we're still in control. If you don't like a bill presented... write your representatives and let them know that if they support the bill, you will be voting for someone else next election. When enough people speak up, they will vote the way you want them to, that's their job.

But you seem politically active... in a 'half-informed' kind of way. (that was a joke, don't get spun up) You know all this...

"It may well be that the only reason these Republicans are so determined to keep our Guantanamo prisoners incarcerated is to avoid the embarrassment and negative political fallout that would ensue if they were released and told the world's media their stories of false arrest, torture, illegal imprisonment, and hunger strikes."

blah blah blah spin.

false arresst? are you kidding me .. there is no such thing anyone can be arrested for anything and held for 48 hours and not even be charged with anything .... just piss a cop off and they can throw you in jail for 2 days. False arrest my ass. Now if you said suspicious convictions that could mean something substantive.

torture?I am not aware of anyone on gitmo being "tortured" in fact they bend over backwards for those ass hats, put there korans in little stachels for them, do all sorts of relgious accodations for them as the guards are routinely assailed by piss, shit, and blood that is flug at them. The guards are the tortured ones!!!!!!

illegal imprisonment they arent americans dont pay taxes and dont get american rights. The whole world is not afforded our rights .... if you want to think that then even if you dotn like the war in Iraq WE HAVE TO BE THERE .... the poor iraqis were not afforded american civil rights, we had to free them, we will be at war forever if you want to persist with this sillyness. If i go to mexico my american civil rights do not travel with me, i can be thrown in jail with out a trial in damn near 1/2 the countries in the world and rot away the rest of my life. Get a gripe on reality.

hunger strikes BAAA HAA HAAA HAAA thats the terrorists own doing. They feed them everyday. If they refuse food that is not anyones fault. Besides you would say it was torture if we force fed them! you would say its against their relgious rights to fast. Should we force feed them during ramadan ????

Don't panic no one is taking away anyone's rights. Here's a different view of the facts on the habeas corpus issue......
