Default Maeve's Johnny Cash-inspired Jeep LJ project

"One Piece at a Time..."

For a couple years, this will probably be more of a "parts gathering" thread than a build thread. Much like her sister Mira's XJ build (Jp Magazine article HERE, and
build thread HERE
), Maeve will be paying for 1/2 of this build, and doing much of the work herself.

We looked at a few unique Jeep options for Maeve, but she kept coming back to wanting a Jeep like her dad's. What we got was a tub with some firewall damage that I'll have to repair, rollbar, carpet, and some misc. other parts. Some minor rocker damage on the driver side will likely be covered with rocker guards & corner armor.

So let the parts gathering, bartering, etc. begin!

Craig (and Maeve)

Dude will you be my dad?

Seriously I think what you are doing with your daughters is awesome. I would love to be able to do this with my kids.

No kidding, I always thought my dad taught me a lot, now I feel like I got jipped. Thanks Craig...

J/K, my dad DID teach me a lot. Looking foreward to this build too! And I'm totally doing this with my kids.

My kind of project. Half the people here wish you would adopt them. The other half secretly wish the same.

Craig, again you are making me smile with these great father/daughter projects. When my kids get a little older I think I would like to take a page from your book and do some type of build with them.

And to Maeve, It looks like you are off to a good start. Happy Parts Gathering.

Thanks guys. I rebuilt a '57 Chevy Bel Air with my dad (4-year project), and that was my car my Senior year of high school. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to both keep the car and pay for college, so I sold it back to him in '89. It was a great father/son experience, though.

I appreciate what I learned building the car with him. Neither of us were "car experts" by any stretch, but we learned as we went, and scrounged creatively for parts. I'm hoping to expose my girls to the same kind of problem-solving situations with these projects.

A complete used LJ would never be in our budget, so we'll piece one together. I absolutely love mine, and will love it even more once it's mobile again. Mine will be going into RockSolid Performance soon for an express-lane style reassembly, and then we can get working on Mira's XJ again. In the meantime, keep Maeve in mind if you happen across TJ/LJ-related parts that we may be interested in (PM me leads on decent deals, if you would). We need...well...pretty much everything.

I don't know what all you need Craig but off my tj i have the stock gas cap and trim piece that I won't be using, stock fuel tank (I need the pump though), rear seat, possibly front seats as soon as I get some replacements, I set of slightly messed up fenders that the inner fenderwalls would be useable for building flatfenders or if you aren't looking for perfect a little tweeking and you could run them as is without a problem. I also have a fair amount of little parts off it that I won't be using. If any of this stuff will help you and the kid along just let me know. I would rather give the stuff to you than deal with selling it.

That would be AWESOME, Chad. We could probably use everything aside from the gas tank (I'll be replacing mine on my LJ). The fenders would definitely help, too. I'll shoot you a note...maybe I can touch base with you next weekend if you'll be around (I wanted to check out that old Schwinn of yours, too).

Thanks,
Craig

If you took the $ you are going to spend on this build and invested in Apple or Google.... By the time your Daughter is 16, You would be able to buy her a Ferrari. Prob wouldn't be as much fun though!!!!

Yes he would. He would cut the fenders out and glue 35's on it.

Fixed.
