Default f150 hub noise?

in my stock 95 f150 i started to get some odd noise today. it happens when i hit a hard bump it makes almost like a grinding humming type of sound until i hit another bump or brake pretty good then the noise goes away. Something is making me guess it may be in the manual hub like its just very slightly engaging and rubbing the ends of the splines but I'm not sure. i am new to the whole hub thing because Ive only messed with jeep dana 30s before that have unit bearings. so if there is a problem with the hub could this be dangerous like the wheel falling off the spindle or if the hub fails does that just mean no 4wheel drive and wont effect the wheel to spindle relationship. I hope all my gibberish makes sense somewhat.

i'm not sure about those older dana 44's but i know the super duty hubs have a needle bearing in the 4x4 hub itself that sometimes will seize up and eat the stub shaft up. check to see it there is a problem like that.
