Of course, I view things scepticaly, I have been trained to do so working in research over the years. After watching the presentation, this seems like a very doable future energy source.

Spent fuel can't be made into nukes as easy so we passed on it a long time ago
But this would be ideal energy for countries we don't want having them

I assumed there would be a catch. On the up side, technology has advanced to the point were this may be a practical. Building a thorium powered reactor would get huge resistance from the current nuke and other industries. I'm also sure the greenies would have a fit becuase of the radio active byproducts even though they have a much shorter half life.

I don't see this technology happening in my life time.

I think this is the answer I was looking for.

I read the Chinese are starting a program to make these reactors

Have there ever been working examples of this process?

I read that they had one working for about 10 years starting back in the late 40's. then they shut it down. I think it was at the research place for the nuke weapons.

Serious development of alternative energy will not commence until all traditional sources of energy are exhausted.

I was wondering if NASA was looking into the process, if they would have a working model?
