The "Replacement" money pit...

well, I figure i lurked long enough here on GL4x4 without subjecting my own shit to the flames of the interweb....thus I throw my hat in the ring...

A few of you may know me, and my old XJ. She served me well for many years, went from mild on 34's with a 9/44 swap and a stroked 4L. to the rolled, beaten, and pretty much wasted wreck of scrap on 37's....

A few years ago while wheeling in TN with the club...i decided i was sick of being that guy and not keeping up with the "jones" per say.... so out it went, and on the build of something worthy of the club (i hope its worthy at least).

I started with an idea, and a license of PTC's ProE Wildfire and a bit of childhood inspiration....after a year+ i had a pretty good idea of what I was going to build...

the inspiration i speak of...

Incomplete parts list

Burned out 97 TJ

4.7L stroker donated from the old XJ

4.30:1 first gear AX15 from a euro model XJ diesel
AtlasII 4.3
14b
SD60
42 irocks on H1's
Ford Super Duty hydro braking system
Eaton hyd steering valve & cylinder
Warn 9.5xp donated from the XJ
a pile of 2x4 and 1 3/4 tubing....

Started the actual fabrication back in Nov of 2010 and by Christmas I had a fairly good start...and a slightly irritated family...turns out they don't like the shop as much as my son and I do...

after a few more months of saturdays and weeknights... we had the tub on it, axles hanging under it, and started remaining crossmembers, brackets, skids, etc.

these pictures were taken roughly a year into the build, things went slow, as time and money allowed.

got a little bit of help from the niece...

machined up some high steer arms for the 60....

fitting the XJ donated front sway-a-way coil overs...

Tuck and Stuff....

The rear Fox C/O's

The meager beginnings of the cage....

The comfort....i had to step up to some good seats, my old ass could take the molded plastic buckets i had the XJ...

This is about what it sat like at the end of March last year.... basic construction finished. On to the tedious stuff....

Yes I do remember the XJ.

Nice work - looks very well-executed and planned.

There are a bunch of TJ's on tons out there, but its a VERY effective and proven offroad rig. Your planning and fab work look great, keep posting up pics.
