Default 96 Chevy Idles fine but Dies out when acceleratin

So my truck just started doing this about 3 hours ago. I went sled riding around some trails (pulled 2 sleds on a trailer), didn't really do anything different, just a little 4-wheel drive and a little heavy on the gas (extremely shitty tires). Everything was just fine till i literally started to turn into my driveway. My truck all of a sudden died out, just flat died, no sputtering/spitting; just gone.

I did have the boom boom on but that was it. I put it in park and tried to start it again, it turned over hard like the battery was low on juice, but it idled just fine. I put it in gear and went to continue and it died again, did that about 4-5 times just trying to drive it up a 50ft driveway. The only thing i noticed was that when i left it sit for a minute or two after it died one time it started up normal (no hard starting), it has always seemed to start a little rough, as in the battery always seems to be a little low (it'll turn over, hesitate for a second then start right up)

The only known problems it has are the drivers ball joints are completely gone and the thermostat is stuck open; both of which are getting replaced tomorrow (sunday 1/22). It has always ran cold (the gauge never got up to 200/210) always stayed around 160-180 (i know, needs a new t-stat)

I haven't exactly given it a full once over, i put it on the scanner and the scanner didn't show any DTCs, and basically said F-it till tomorrow. The only things me and the gramps can come up with is the computer (don't know what exactally), the TPS, or i've read online that a similar problem was solved with a new coolant temp senser

Any idea or fixes for this problem?

Oh I forgot that one of the times it died, it kinda died, came back a bit, died out, came back then gone completly. My foot on the gas didn't seem to do anything other rev it up when it started to come back

I had a pontiac that did this and it turned out to be the battery being bad. I got a new battery and no more problem. I would check the volts on the battery and start it and check again to see what the alternator is putting out.

With my Pontiac the alternator went out so i replaced it and then it must have weakened the battery because that was when i started having problems like yours. Funny thing was the battery checked good under a load test but caused the same issue when put into another car.

My guess is that you have a weak battery and a bad fuel pump.

Battery tested good, at least according to the experts at advance auto....i changed the fuel pump (whole sending unit) last year.

I believe my alternator is not putting out the right amps, i'll take it in and have it tested to see. I changed the t-stat, and coolant temp sensor and it seems to be just fine now...huge difference in how hot the heat is

what kind of fuel pump did you put in it because i know that the airtex 1 year warranty fuel pump from advanced are not the best every company has its bad parts and the airtex pump is a bad part we get they are just built cheaply for the chevys it seems. i always would go with either delphi or bosch fuel pump advanced also can test your altenator for you. yes i do work there but i am not afraid to admit the faults of the company

If your alternator checks out good i would strongly consider finding a battery you can bum for a day and see if that is the case. Like i said, mine tested good at advance but it did the same thing in two different cars after words.

It hasn't done it since i replaced the t-stat and for giggles i replaced the coolant temp sensor too. I still need to get the alt tested...either was i would like to get a higher amp one

It was a delphi pump i believe, it wasnt from advance, i got it from rockauto.com, love that site. I got the whole sending unit, not just the pump. I like advance for regular parts, but electronic stuff and fuel pumps i go with something a little more reliable
