240k mile IDI

A guy offered me this truck in trade for my 4x4 1/2 ton. Its a 94 F-350 with a 7.3L IDI with after market turbo and a 5 speed transmission 240k miles. I've never owned a diesel but have been around them for years and I'm considering trading (don't need a big truck like this really but I like new toys). What problems should I look out for on a truck like this, and are they decent on fuel?

What are you asking for your truck? That truck is 2k tops in my book. Oil coolers like to blow o-rings and leak a lot of oil out. Little odd ball things but they are fairly reliable motors and will run forever, just be careful if the fuel pump has been cranked as they will cook the pistons if you dont have a egt gauge.

I was inspect his engine and radiator leak coolant. He doesn't know what SCA for coolant that I told him.

I'd like $2,500 for my truck but with the work it needs I'd say $2,100 - $2,000 at the lowest.
His names Rob says he's from Wayne and he bought the truck from a farm in Port Huron 2 years ago. I think I might know who your talking about though.
Short skinny guy named Rob from Belleville bought a truck from me last year and the guy was nuts.

With it being a 7.3 IDI get a SCA level test strips and check the coolant. If the are well maintained you should see about 300K with no problem. IF THEY ARE NOT SHOWING OR NEVER CHECKED RUN AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!! these motors are know for the coolant wearing holes in the cylinder walls due to cavitaion (see
Cavitation Cavitation
or
Cavitation. Block Worm. The Expensive Death. A MUST READ! - Oilburners.net
). It will have a ZF-5 for the trans, and the aftermarket turbo will wake these engine up. These are extremely reliable trucks. The nice thing about these are that they will burn anything more flammable than water, from jet fuel to ATF to waste motor oil. For more info on this engine check out
6.9L IH & 7.3L IDI Diesels - Oilburners.net

The IDI 7.3L engines are pretty good and they don't really have a lot of issues other than what's mentioned. The best part about them is you can run mixed fuel... crap diesel, ATF, diesel mixed with old oil. It all burns in this engine, though may smoke or gunk your system depending on how rich you mix it

Missed the fuel comment ^^
