Back from the dead

I thought I would post some progress pics, I am doing an engine swap for revho.

The ol' 6 gave up so in goes a 360

Here is what I started with

After a little degreasing and cleaning

Here is the 360, was in a CJ. Because this is a RHD I am not sure what issues I am gonna run into with header fitment and room for the alternator. I am going to have the correct motor mounts soon (the ones on the 360 are kinda homemade and not usable) and then I can see what will need to be modified. The alternator bracket is also homemade and I might try and find something better.

Woot! Glad to see you found a new engine, Kevin, along with someone to install it.

This is the first time i have seen one of these and it is awsome. I'm glad to see it hasn't been chopped to oblivion by some p/o. I love the uniqueness looks great.

The over all appearence hasn't been altered so much from stock. As far as this particular postal, it was made from two different postals that were bad in Anchorage before we got it. The body/top and doors were made from a bad framed postal, to a postal that had a bad body. When we got it, it had a amc hornet 258, so the motor had already been swapped as well. Here is a pic of a restored postal at the museum of transportation in Alaska. I believe this maybe a bigwalton photo credit? not sure as I saved it quite awhile go. Also, bigwalton has more info on them. I believe he talked to someone when the gov't sold them off after 10 years of use and more than one person brought them straight to the metal recyclers and dumped the hard tops and doors. I am sure he will chime in if I gave out bad info.

Motor is in, looks like the headers and everything else will clear the RHD steering shaft

A few more progress pics........

Front accessories on, re-used his PS pump in the V8 brackets, had to do a little adjusting to get the belt alignment right and heli-coil one stripped hole in the head. I am still not thrilled with the alternator mount but I did add a brace to the top to help it out.

Headers just clear the steering and tuck up nice to the body.

Next up is re-routing the fuel line to the drivers side, wiring, finish the exhaust and put the carb on

Big thanks to Adam for getting this up and running again. A few small things to iron out like a air cleaner and the exhaust. But I did drive it for a few minutes after I got it off the trailer and this thing can go. The old 232 I6 couldn't get out of it's own way. What an upgrade.
