Default Canada and their snowmobile permits.

Ok, get this. In Ontario, permits are $100 for a three day pass, and $150 for a seven day pass.

Shipping is $20 for the first permit, $4 each additional permit. They will only mail out three permits in an envelope.

So if four people want to go on a weekend trip to Canada, the cost would be:

$100
$100
$100
$100
$20
$4
$4
$20

$448!!!!!

I can't imagine why all these small towns in Northern Ontario are dieing because of tourism being non-existent in the winter..

You have to purchase them from the local club in that district. We would be going to district 13, and you have to arrange a meeting with a club member to purchase them from them.

awesome...one more reason to hate canaduh...we should get in touch with a club memeber to see if they will mail them out, without the handling fee's

Oh yeah if any of you were planning on riding from Sault Ste. marie through to Wawa... Forget it... Halfway haven is now closed in the winter, so the last i heard they were not grooming and there would be no way to get gas in between both towns... and believe me you will not make it on 1 tank...

We were planning on staying around Wawa or Dubreuilville. I saw halfway haven was for sale, looks like they didn't find a buyer

I was the last sled to go there last spring (Only cost me $120 for the gas and the lunch)... I was there this fall on my dirtbike and they said the money they make during the winter for the last couple hasn't been enough to justify the expenses and the work involved to keep it open through the winter... They are looking at opening in the spring and staying open until late October each year to cater to the quad/motorbike/side-by-side crowd. For those that didn't know... you can ride those over here and not spend money on permits and sticker bullshit... just saying.... Anyhow... If someone is looking to get sled permits, I may be able to pick them up for you and you can grab them from me on your way through the Sault... It'll save you all the extra charges they nail you with...

Permits are only required for groomed snowmobile trails. You do not require any permitting for quads, dirtbikes, or side by sides. Were you still hung from the Christmas party when you read my post?

what happens if you get caught on a groomed trail without a permit? is it illegal or just frowned upon?

I believe they will charge you for a permit right there and then... not sure if there is a fine that goes along with it... and the rules are enforced by Trail Wardens (guys from the club that are given some POWER!!!... lol) and also Provincial Police and Game Wardens...

Like I said... I can help you out if you want...

We were gonna do the snowtrain ride all the way to Hearst this year then ride back. The problem is so many of the fuel stops are closed and my sled guzzles it. Plus they keep jumping trail permits and the grooming has sucked in recent years. The Haven being closed really screws up the Wawa/Soo ride. Although the gas was always full of water and crap.

You can no longer get from Wawa to the Soo.

I always purchased my permit at the Snow Show. If not, I picked it up when I get into town.

Also, I am not sure if it has changed, but you MUST have your sled insured. If you can not present proof of insurance, you will be fined.
