Default gear identification

was told when i bought the cj that it had a dana 30 up front and amc 20 rear both are locked but wasn't sure on the gears.

front diff








rear diff






no idea about the front but it looks like the rear is welded.

so.... what do i have here ???

He lied, you have 3.73s with an open front and a really shitty welder rear.

The 41 and 11 you can read on the ring gear in pic 3 is how many teeth are on the ring gear and pinion gear.

figures, i have no idea how old this front axle is but it's drum brakes. i'd like to put scout 44's under it eventually but thanks for the info.

i tried to get a pic of the #'s on the rear but i can hardly read them with an LED light on them

No 41/11 equals 3.72xxxxx the pinion gear has to turn 3.72xx to make the big gear go around once.

You may want to consider a better weld job on that rear. Looks shady as hell to me.

Even still, I would weld that up better. I wouldn't hardly trust that weld job down the driveway and back

Chances are you will break a weld rounding a corner on the street vs on the trail. Dirt gives, asphalt doesn't.
